OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If a deer could see like a tree rat!!!!!!! We would never kill a deer.

How in the world!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Its like they look at you and SMILE!!!!!!!!! They know they are about to bust ya. They climb up on a limb then start barking. Then EVERY tree rat in the woods does the same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, when those little rats are on the ground, I swear, they can sound just like a deer walking through the woods. I'll hear something coming through the leaves behind, heart will start beating faster, then out pops a freaking tree rat...

You HAVE to treat each sound like it is a deer. I've "neglected" one, one time....thinking it was a squirrel....and the biggest buck in my woods trotted right under me and away.

Brings up a point I've been wanting to discuss.....

Do you MOST of the time.....

#1 - SEE your deer , first...or

#2 - HEAR them, first?

I typically HEAR them, first. Hence me LOATHING the squirrel!

I like to hunt in the thickest woods I can find, so yeah, I hear 95% of deer before I see them.

Of course, there are those occasions, like last weekend where a little doe can sneak up right under my stand b/c all the leaves are wet after a rain and I don't know that she is underneath me until she starts blowing at me....

I usually see deer first, but I have poor hearing that runs in our family. It also doesn't help that I have permanent tinnitis from shooting guns all my life and not wearing proper hearing protection. If I hear a deer, it's usually pretty close and should be able to see it already.

I usually hear them first but last year I was watching a squirrel to my right, enjoying God's nature even though they too often give me false hope, when two does came in from my left. Didn't know they were any where around until they were within 20 yards of my stand.

Depends where I am hunting. Most of SC is covered in pines so hearing the deer first is very rare. About the only time I hear one first is if it comes from behind me or if its dry and I am hunting an oak stand, which is also rare in SC. The timber industry has devestated this state.
