RE: Fame or Family??????????
This thread has me second-guessing myself over something that transpired just last night.
My 15 yr old son is interested in his high school shooting team (clays).....and they have a meeting set for next Sat., 9/29 at 9:30 in the morning. I asked him if he wanted me to go (a parent must accompany the child)....and he said he thought I'd be hunting....and mama could take him. Lisa said she would....and they talked about having our son drive them over there (just got his learner's permit, last week).....where to eat breakfast...etc... I'm not going to ask him, again. I need to go. Thanks for posting this. |
RE: Fame or Family??????????
ORIGINAL: ash2042 I recently read a blog from a famous bowhunter and also watched video clips on his websight. His blog was for a period of about 4 months. He gave his daily routine for this time period. During his daily routine there was not anytime for his 3 kids or his wife. When he did hang out with his kids they were running(literally). It just seemed everthing he did with his family revolved around him and his fame. He had a photo shoot and missed well more than half of his sons ballgame. I realize everyone may miss a few of their kids games or activities but usually we spend more time with them than this guy. I wrote a response stating I would like to see a normal daily routine since the last four months didn't show much time with his family. I was very nice in my response and it was removed so that no one could read it. Removing my comment made me realize this guy is all about himself and fame and that he doesn't spend much time with his family. If he did, he would have answered my responce and not removed it. Sorry I just had to vent, I feel family is the most important thing in my life. Time with my little girl is amazing and the values and memories she will have will be priceless. I am just wondering would you give up 95% your family time to be famous or be an under armor model? When I was a kid, my dad used to skip soccer tournaments to hunt the rut. I never blamed him and he would call me and give me updates and ask about my games. To be honest, I would have rather been hunting myself. Every year when he went elk hunting he missed my sister's birthday, but they just celebrated it a different day and trust me, my sister never felt slighted. Not everyone is the same. |

RE: Fame or Family??????????
I have one of those so called famous fathers I guess. I don't think my dad ever thought of himself as famous though. But he was lucky enough to get to hang out with people all of us would call famous I think. He was gone a lot. But he was also using the talents that god gave him to support his family. I had a mom that didn't need to work and stayed home and ran the ship. There isn't many women out there now days that would put up with it. But they have been going strong for over 50 years!Dad spent lots of time with us when he was home and even coached my baseball team growing up. And during deer & turkey season we spent every weekend together doing what we loved to do. He turned down doing lots of things that I know he probably really wished he would have done. But it wasn't what he though was best for the family.I had a great childhood. I have never had a time when I thought my father wasn't taking time for us at home.

RE: Fame or Family??????????
Fame isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'm not sure I'd want REAL fame. But even mild popularity isn't worth sacrificing your family. A lot of people we hold up as "Heroes" for whatever industry/hobby/sport have sacrificed their personal life to attain that level of achievment. It's hard to put in the time/effort needed to rise above the level of competition that most careers/sports/hobbies have attained and still have time enough for family. There's quite a few "Stars" who's families fell apart, or they never even had time for a family, because they obsessed over their career/hobby/sport. Not worth it. I'd rather work my time, spend the other time with family, friends, GOD, and hobbies.
