He probably payed someone to lease the area. I have heard of this happening more than once.
to lease hunting property. Some grifter pulls out a township map, outlines the area and negotiates
a "sweet deal" for our dupe. That is really not that far fetched. That also wouldn't make the
scamee think much of the posted signs. It's a good scam for a sucker who doesn't bother to
check out the guy or the property first.

Well I got the info.
The guy called me.
A while back one of the locals asked me if he could hunt there. I told him no because 1. he was drunk at the time 2. the safety of the kids.
This jerk tells the trespasser he can hunt there all he wants and that he owns the land, blah blah blah.
This guy was real nice over the phone and I gave him his stuff back tonight.

If so, it might be time to make nice......with your new hunting partner.

What an arse doing that to you.
I guess lying isn't breaking the law - conspiracy to commit trespass?

I was thinking it was something like that or he paid someone for the "rights." Most true trespassers
are unfortunately a lot sneakier.
Sounds like you did the right thing by going easy on the guy.
