Baking soda. Use this in your arm pits and undies! Lol! It's a great scent blocker and it's cheap!

Well, I do my own scent killer spray, fletch my own arrows, "customized" my GPS, so I can clip it to my backpack instead of buying the overpriced adapter, print my own maps, use cupons and discounts...and all the few dollars that I saved, I spend in a brand new Eberlestock J107 Dragonfly back pack!

Oh well...

Don't buy every "new" thing that comes out. People have been killing deer (and other game) for year without all of this junk. Scout, prepare, and get in the woods. That is how to hunt, not buying $100s in gadgets.

ebay and craigslist are good places to get equipment cheap. Also, a lot of guys post messages on craigslist asking for places to hunt - not sure if they are successfull though.

cabelas bargain cave (if you live by a cabelas). In the past I've gotten feeders (for the off season of course) for $15. wildview 2.0 trail cam for $37. 5 pin trophy ridge fiber optic sight for $32. But, I live a mile away and check the 'cave' frequently.

Home made Luminoks! Cost $2.50 each to make versus $11 each to buy. If you want to make your own do a search on Archerytalk and you'll find plenty. They work great.

Also, I'm a big fan of last years model of gently used bows.

no name brand huntingwear
buy used equipment(but relyable)
make own portable treestands & ground blinds
hunt locally
dont buy gimicks (tho yes that is in the eye of the beholder)
make own scent killer products, gland based lures, string silencers, fletching jig, bow press, serve own string, tune & maintain own bow.
there is more, but you get my point.

there, i just made venison the cheepest meat you can find.

i still have fun too, but yes, the tradeoff is time.

Your own scent cover, huh? Could you explain how you do this? I've had the idea before but didn't even know where to start...
