Reading the original post, he tracked the wounded deer for two hours (doesn't mention the distance) and when the blood trail stopped, he searched a 75 yard radius from the end of the blood trail. Sounds like he started tracking too soon and pushed the deer.

geterdun - Rob recommended that you read his post here: http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=2272257

Lots of good info here - gotta give the wounded deer a chance to bed down and bleed out.

I am sorry to here of your loss, I hope in this case someone had found it and it was still good. It is sad to here of lost deer, I had shot one last fall in a light rain. I left it to bleed out some, so I had gave it an hour before persueing. I had lost the blood trail rather quickly. SoI made circles from the last spot of blood. Each cirle went father out each time I circled. I never gave up on it until I found it. The deer circle around to be right below the hill I was at whenI first shot him. The total distance was about 300 yards on a double lung shot. The wayI circled was to mark the spot where I had last found blood and circled in the direction the deer had run to.
