The Buck That Finally Gave Me An Opportunity
 

I shot my first "big" (meaning spread greater than 15" in our state) buck last saturday night. I wasn't going to post this, but can't help it. I know scoring estimates are a pain, because everyone has differing opinions so I won't ask... but if you offer up your opinion...;). I had two criteria that I wanted to be a part of my first "big" buck. 1) Had to be with my bow, or it just wouldn't be the same. 2) I'd like it to be on State land. (I'm a glutton for punishment, and that makes it a whole lot harder/frustrating.) Both those were achieved here, thanks to my buddies teaching me and taking me along.
I know many of you would pass on him for another year, as he was 2 1/2 and probably would have been a nice deer next year. Unfortunately I don't own or have access to 600 - 1000 acres privately. This dude would be gone by Nov. 10, and in my area, you just don't pass on this unless something bigger is standing next to him.
He just worked off his velvet a day or two before, and had two or threelong dreds hanging down. The taxidermist was relieved to see his first hard-horned deer of the season in. He said that the ticks and chiggers in the velvet are a nightmare to him. He's also going to save the dreds and keep them hanging on the mount. I think it'll tell a story to those in the know. Don'twant to come across as bragging, just proud and wanted toshare... Thanks.

fechmupbud: you don't have to worry about what anyone else would have done or says you should have done. Hunting and taking the deer of your choice for your pleasure is what it should be. It's suppose to be fun. I'm proud of your dang deer. I'd shoot him in a heart beat.... unless macho buck was next to him. :) Don't EVER feel like you can't post something on here. If folks get in your case there will always be a couple of us crotchetty old farts around to cover your back. I personnally think it's a very nice deer. Not as big as some of mine.. but nice. LOL[8D][8D] OH, I have shot about 40 or so smaller bucks and everyone of them was special.

somebody needs to wipe the milk off that deers mouth!!!! Just kiddin man, nice buck. I just hope one like that doesnt walk by my stand before a nice doe on saturday...because then my MN hunting would be over with. I can only take 1 buck this year or 1 doe with my bow, and a buck with the ol shotty..

It's not braggin, that's what we're here for to share our hunts. Why wouldn't you post it. I think that's a dandy deer and would be hard to pass. You did good.

Score, that's tough to call, and he's at your taxi, have him measure it for fun, it just takes moments.

I look at it this way, you mounted him so he was worthy to take.

Rob offered up a great suggestion, too... I don't know a taxidermist around here that wouldn't stretch a tape across that rack for you since you're paying him to mount it for you!
