Hunting and the Women
I started thinking about some of the past relationships I've been in earlier today. Most of the womengrew up around hunting but really couldn't stand it. I can recall a few times that I got agood scorn about how I could get up at 3a.m. after going to bed at midnight to go hunting, but couldn't get up at 9 to attend one of their family functions. That is until I met my fiance. She's one of those Paris Hilton type glamour girls, but with a brain, and I know she doesn't care two squats about hunting and I don't expect her to. I have to admit though thats it's pretty awesome to be able to come home and BS aboutbowhunting andscouting. Even though she doesn't "really care" she asks questions and at least pretends to be interested. Recently she even started sitting out in the yard while I target shoot and even offered to video for me this year before she got pregnant. So here it is, theres been a few posts here about getting in trouble with hunting and your wives; but how many of you guys have women that you can actually talk to and sharethe hunting experience with?

RE: Hunting and the Women
My gorgeous wife knows my passion for bowhunting and turkey hunting for that matter and supports me. She knows not to plan anything the month of Oct/Nov and mornings come Spring gobbler. She never complains, she listens tho she doesn't care, she listens. She's a keeper.

RE: Hunting and the Women
My wife doesn't hunt with me, doesn't much care to hear the stories but she does a great job of butchering and cooking. I always skin and Quarter my deer, she finishes it up and spends my hide money at the leather store.
Hmm, A wife like Parris Hilton... wth a brain, wants to go hunting and has a video camera? I'd never come out of the woods. lol |
RE: Hunting and the Women
I actually got A turkey this spring on her birthday and got away with it. Wisconsin spring turkey you draw tags in 5 day seasons, I drew her bday as my 1st day. Hunting gods were with me, the drive to the woods took longer than the hunt and I actually got yelled at for being home to early. lol

RE: Hunting and the Women
Last year season was fine for me, but my girl got Friday nights as long as I got Saturdays. Now that she's my wife...and pregnant, I'm not sure how it's gonna go. She knows that hunting is therapeutic for me, and that if I get to go, it is somewhat better for her...
When I'm not in the woods and I could be, I'm not the most fun person to be around. Hopefully, she can still have her "night" and I can still get my day in... But she doesn't understand hunting...how you have to put in the hours to be successful and on Saturdays, if the sun is out, that it is "hunting time." My father-in-law used to hunt but ended up having 5 girls so now he does gay stuff...he has since acquired two son-in-laws and is getting to fish and hunt more...man things. However, my wife, coming from a estrogen dominated household doesn't understand like I want her to. Hopefully, she'll learn. |

He walked in with a turkey beard sticking out of his shirt-pocket and didn't say a word until Dr. Riddell noticed it and asked him about it. He couldn't believe it. Dad and Mom are still together...but I sure as heck don't recommend picking hunting over seeing your child be born. Many nights on the couch for Dad after that little incident... But hey, he got a turkey right? Haha. |
RE: Hunting and the Women
froman, that's a good one. In your dads defense, he didn't choose turkey hunting over your brothers birth, he chose to do both and got it done! lol They didn't name your brother Tom, did they?

RE: Hunting and the Women
2 things:
#1 - I'm in the same position as Rob with regards to my wife's outlook on my hunting. #2 - She's one of those Paris Hilton type glamour girls, but with a brain, and I know she doesn't care two squats about hunting and I don't expect her to. |

RE: Hunting and the Women
Hunting is my only vise. I watch the New England Patriots when I can...especially when we are in the playoffs and in the Big Bowl. I don't drink, smoke, hang out with buds or have many other things to occupy my time...yea right...But she knows I like to hunt and I spend a lot of time scouting, setting up for hunting and hunting. She is pretty much tolerable of it all. I do put hunting down on the priority list when other things (life) come up. My dream is to be able to hunt all the seasons to death untill I get something but that has never happened. I took her out squirrel hunting not to long after we got married. I vowed then that I would NEVER take her hunting again...and I haven't. She listens to my scouting and hunting stories and that is fine with me.
Still happily married after 29 years. Reid |
RE: Hunting and the Women
Well guys i hit the jacpot my girl and i just got engaged and well she loves to hunt. We are always hunting when we can heck last year she even killed more deer than me.
|
RE: Hunting and the Women
My wife don't have a problem with me hunting. She'll always ask if I seen anything and thats about it. We've been together 9 years and married 6.
|
RE: Hunting and the Women
This is a very rare find you speak of, my girlfriend doesnt like hunting very much but she does get excited when I shoot a buck.
|
RE: Hunting and the Women
I consider myself to be pretty lucky, I found a beautiful girl who was already an archery champion and hunter when we meet. This will be our first hunting season together and she is just as excited as I am for opening day. No more fighting about spending time in the woods. We spent this past weekend scouting and getting the tree stands ready down at camp. Couldn't be happier, especially since my last relationship was with an anti-hunter.
|
RE: Hunting and the Women
My wife will go rifle hunting and squirrel hunting with me. Did want to target shoot a bow but we never had the extra cash to buy her one. Then after thebirth of our first child last year all that kinda fell aside. Might be able to talk her into going a day or so of rifle season this year.
So far hasn't given me too much grief about going. |
RE: Hunting and the Women
My wife and I have been together for 7 years and married 4 years. She does not hunt. She loves shooting clays though. She doesn't like me hunting everyday of the week but we compromise pretty good on the weekends. She knows when the rut is and that we don't schedule stuff for that time of year. I have been blessed with a great wife and we now have an 8 month old daughter. My daughter starts dancing every time she hears a turkey call so hopefully that is a good thing. I am going to try and get my daughter to like hunting instead of shopping. Will have to see in the future how that all pans out.

ORIGINAL: snake123 I can recall a few times that I got agood scorn about how I could get up at 3a.m. after going to bed at midnight to go hunting, but couldn't get up at 9 to attend one of their family functions. LOL - Well that still probably wouldn't go over too well if it was during the off-season, but during October / November that is when the day begins! But then again, maybe the family function wasn't as exciting as sitting in a tree listening to a 900 pound squirrel running around at daybreak. Coming at you from the other side here. You all sound like you have balanced the hunting relationship life. My question back at you is has anybody else "created a monster" as my fiancee likes to refer to me? I went awayhunting with him last year but never really got out in the woods. We went to the archery range a few times and I watched, then on one trip he had me try it out and the rest is history. He bought me my first bow for Christmas, which took about 3 months to find and about 300 miles in driving, but I have turned into one of those people that gets nutty when I cant get out to shoot my bow regularly. After watching countless hours of MOR (which mysteriously disappeared recently), the Outdoor Channel and a multitude of bow hunting videos I cant wait to get out in the woods. I have to thank him for getting me addicted to another outdoor sport in which I can spend a ton of money on to spend eons of my life outside. My only thought recently was, did he get me hooked so he wont get nagged and yet he still doesn't have to spend time with me? ? ? ah the things that go through a woman's head. I am joking, he wanted to spend more time with me, and this is something we enjoy doing together now. Our son got his first bow for his 1st birthday, and this past weekend again tells me to "shhh" when I ask him, "where are all the deer"? He too watches countless hours of hunt footage, for him it's less exciting then Barney I supposed since it all looks the same when everybody is in camo. At 13 months he could tell me the noise a deer makes, most kids his age tell you the noise a cow, duck, dog, cat, etc. can make, he knows the noise a deer makes. Watching a call video the other day was probably one of the funniest things that I have ever seen, with the fawn in distress he started screaming back at the tv.... I never knew this sport could be so entertaining! |

RE: Hunting and the Women
my girlfriend is kinda like yours. only i dont think she pretends to be interested...i think she is. which is great. ive taken her fishing and she loves that.
i simply dont have the time to devote to teaching her. i barely have time as it is. shes never been around guns or hunting or anything so i would be starting from scratch. i figure if we make it, and we stick together i will take her shooting...take her scouting..take her on a few hunts..then maybe get her into hunting if she sticks with it that long. i could probably start a whole female archery club. her and my sister both beg to shoot my bow. i just know there aint no way they are gunna muscle it back or id surely let them. funny though...she says she dont have a problem with it...but after 3 years now, i am noticing a change in her tune. why do you have to hunt every day? 1200$ for a stupid gun?!?!? etc etc...so we will see...we will see. i definently cant have a women around that is going to be like that. i love hunting and fishing and thats what i spend my free time and money on...they cant deal with that, then they cant deal with me |
RE: Hunting and the Women
Women...
It's kinda like when you're driving down the road, and the squealer finally starts rubbing into your rotor... You've known you were gonna need new brakes for months. It's not a surprise. So, you have two options. You can pull off the road and address the problem, get yourself all dirty and get it over with. Or, you can just turn up the radio and tune that squealer right out - untilDecember. If that makes any sense. |
RE: Hunting and the Women
Give it time! Wailt until the ring goes on the finger and a few rug rats running about!
My wife hates everything about hunting. I'm glad. My wife is my partner in many things, but this is onw thing that I would rather just go and do by myself, to be with myself. |
RE: Hunting and the Women
MY WIFE OF 23 YEARS HAS NO PROBLEM WITH MY HUNTING.WHEN PEOPLE ASK HER IF MY HUNTING AND FISHING ALL THE TIME BOTHERS HER SHE ALWAYS SAY'S,ITS BETTER THEN HIM CHASING GIRLS AROUND IN BARS.NOW I HAVE NOT BEEN TO A BAR IN 16/17 YEARS AND SHE STILL SAYS THAT.AS LONG AS IT WORKS DONT FIX IT I GUESS.A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO SHE ASKED IF SHE COULD GO OUT WITH ME THIS YEAR IN THE GROUND BLIND AND IM NOT KIDDING WHEN I SAY I CANT WAIT. RE: Hunting and the Women
As I get more and more into hog hunting, I've been trying to get the latest girlfriend to get interested in it with me. For a moment there,.. I thought I had her on the right path with giving her the credit card and sending her off in search of CAMO that she could use on the next hunt.
She came back with a pink -camo top, and matching hat/ something like below : ![]() "What theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee crapppppppppppppppppppppp ? " ![]() |

RE: Hunting and the Women
My buddy asked me to fletch his arrows for him. I asked him what color? He said he didn't care. So I put 2 pink and a purple vane on each. He now has the prettiest arrows in the woods.
Another friend of mine is attatched at the hip with his wife. She doesn't like to hunt but has tagged along a few times. One time I shot a nice buck, went over by his stand to get help and they are in the tree buck nakkid goin at it. I just stood there, not wanting to interupt, thought about just sneaking away again, but I still needed help. I stood there a minute, and all of a sudden another buck appears, right under his stand! The buck is watching them too! That buck stood there still as a rock for 5 minutes just watching them while they're making all kinds of noises and moving around....My buck tag is filled and on the ground field dressed, this buck is 30 yards from me broadside and I can't shoot and can't get there attention. The buck moves toward me and gets to 20 yards and stops to watch them some more and I can't hardly take it. I draw my bow and just as I did a doe walks up to the buck out of nowhere, stops, looks up at my friend and his wife, and I wacked her from 18 yards. The doe and the buck exploded into a run, the wife screamed, when they scrambled they knocks most of there cloths out of the stand. I yelled "watch that doe, I hit 'er good!" he replies "she's down right over there." How long you been there?" "10 MINUTES! So was that buck and that doe! You 2 might as well climb on down, won't be nearly as entertaining as the last 10 minutes." To my surprise, they did, she had nothing on but boots, and when down they realized that there cloths had landed in a nasty blackberry patch. Being the nice guy I am, I went into the tangle razor weeds and got there cloths out for them. What are friends for? lol Think we may have discovered a new way to call in deer? Would have made a heck of a hunting show.lmao |
