Funny.....not what I expected.....

With my season looming right around the corner (tomorrow morning).....I'm finding myself looking forward to the time in the woods MUCH more than the "hunting".
Hard to explain.....or do I have to??

The older I get, the less I worry about what I get, and the more I enjoy nature!!!! I used to get bummed at tag soup, now I get bummed if I didn't spend enough time in the field!!!

thats what its all about Jeff. sure, im out there hoping to see game. hoping to fill a tag. but there are days that are unsuccessful that rank right up there with the ones that i am. just sitting in the woods does something all on its own for me. for a lack of a better way to put it, thats where i feel i belong..where i feel at home. where i feel most comfortable. where i can truely relax and enjoy every moment that slips by.
killin that big ole buck, or getting a shot at the longbeard is always nice...but really, icing on the cake for me. i just love to be "out there" the things we get to see that many people never get to witness. the woods awakening on a spring morning...the smell of the crisp fall air when the leaves are beginning to fall, the true sound of a babbling brook, the last hour of a fall hunt when the woods almost seem to glow, the wily ole fox that is sneaking around who is also hunting, the red tailed hawk chasing chipmunks right infront of you...so much we see that many do not. heck...alot of people never even see the sun rise.
alot more to hunting than just killing. sure, i will always look forward to the kill. i will always be looking to fill a tag, but if you dont enjoy nature for what it is, and JUST go out there to kill, your hunting for different reasons than I...and not enjoying what we have...
i feel we should take in everything we can...see all we can see..never know what day is our last...and dont take it forgranted..if things keep goin the way they are goin, it wont be too long till most everywhere is concrete or asphalt.
one of the reasons i feel i am going to truely love my job. i wont be in a concrete jungle. i will be in the wild daily...sure i will be working..but i wont let the beauty of it all slip by unnoticed...i may never be rich...but i will surely be happy...
good luck tomarrow Jeff...looking forward to reading tomarrows post
