Looks like it could be a jungle in there. I have hunted some islands on the IL River and it is some thick, nasty stuff. The deer have tunnels running under the vines and brush. Take a chain saw to clear shooting lanes. But there are deer in that stuff, they love it for bedding cover.

You make a good point here....I hadn't thought of that. When that river floods, it's hard telling what kind of crap has been washed into there, and with all that moisture I'm sure the trees and underbrush grow like crazy.....

Having read everything ya'll have to say about this spot, what I once thought would be a fairly simple place to hunt (because there just isn't much wooded area) may in fact, turn out to be rather difficult.....

Oh well....If this rain subsides, I'm going to check it out after work today....We'll see, but right now it's raining cats and dogs.....Really, I see them falling from the sky.......honest I do......

Scott, thanks for reminding me to post this update.....I'm not sure why I didn't....

Anyway, I walked some of this property after work on Friday evening. W/out even making it to the levy, I saw 15 deer, 4 of which were pretty nice bucks. That pond in the photo is a wash out from the flood of '93, and it's a deep flippin hole.....But, there is KILLER bedding cover all around that pond. After seeing that, and all the deer, I'll wait for a north wind and slip into the woods behind that pond......OR, I might set up along the edge of a bean field I saw 8 deer feeding in....Hell, i don't know....This place is just friggin awesome....I don't know where I'll sit....I may actually lie flat on the levy the first evening and see if I can locate where the deer are moving from....

I never made it to the woods on this trip.....I saw pretty much all I needed to see and got the hell outta dodge.....This should be a really killer spot.

I've been thinking about how the heck I'm gonna get all my stuff back there, and here's my plan...I have a cart I will strap my stand to, and my backpack will carry my bow....Problem solved....I'll just wheel it back there. Besides, when I kill that 135 back there, I'll need that cart to get his arse to the truck....:D
