Nice buck & good shot. Seeing that picture is a good reminder that we all need to make sure we make the best shot possible out of respect for the animal so it won't suffer very long. You did that here, good job and congrats!

That is totally Cool! The light showing up on its head helps authenticate it even more IMO. Any one who has used digital trail cams have seen it before on moving deer. I have some shots of where the deer appears to be a ghost from where the images over lap at high speed. So that IMO helps verify it was moving when the pic snapped. Also, Kelly said his arrow hit the other leg and broke, so that is why the arrow looks crystal clear, it was not moving, it had stopped in the opposite shoulder. That is a great pic Kelly and you should cherish it forever!

Awesome, Kelly! Congratulations, my friend!!

I do hope you do some legwork to see if you can either win some money or at the least get a few game cams free for letting them use the images... just too cool! Way to go, man!

On a side note... am I the only one wondering about pulling your wife out of a shower... to show her game cam pics? I can think of several other possibilities.. :D

Glad to be a member of HNI! Good job trying to help out our team mate by RickJames! Appears they had enough of us guys coming over there defending him, they locked the thread. Here is a pic of ghosting in case some have never seen it, you can tell by this deer stance he was at a casual walk...

RE: Incredible Game Cam Action Shot - not a debate on baiting thanks

Hey Rick James...thanks for the heads up and the back up, but looks like they already shut down the thread. You see, that's why I was a little apprehensive about posting it anywhere, but I figure enough of you have heard me over the years and heck you get a pic like that and you have to show someone. It's not photoshopped at all. I cropped it to take out the date, which was off by one week to keep me from entering into that discussion, but other than that that it is exactly the way I downloaded the picture. I still can't believe it myself.

So, whether you believe it or not, there you have it. It is possible to catch the shot on cam, if everything falls just perfectly. And for the record, since one of those yahoos off AT bashed the shot...just 1/2" above the heart, double lunged. Hit the opposite side leg and broke. Not bad for 28 yards, first deer of the year.

What a bunch of jerks over on AT, unbelievable.[:'(] At least this forum has class....

That thread even got locked.

And for the guy who took the picture over there from here, you should have taken them all or explained it, not that it would have done any good because even with the link provided, half those guys were still huge jerks.

RE: Incredible Game Cam Action Shot - not a debate on baiting thanks

Well........First congrats on the deer, you made a great shot. Second, to capture it on film is absolutely amazing, great sequence of shots. Third, I know it's legal in your state to feed and hunt over feeders and I'm not posting here to berate you for doing it.....it's just not my kind of hunting.

I just got through a whole post on Bow vs Gun and most who responded "towed the company line" and said how bow hunting is the end all when it comes to skill and difficulty..............Sorry Kelly but I'd rather take a 50 yard broad side shot with my slug gun at a free roaming deer than shoot a deer over a feeder. Where is the sense of accomplishment with it? Is the fact that you used your bow make it some how more difficult? I thought bow hunting was about scouting and finding the deer so youcan get in close and take a shot. I haven't changed my shot gun stand in 12 years on my property, why? Because it's over a field and I have ability to reach out to different distances in order to get a shot.

My bow stands and pistol stands change every year because I scout out where the deer are moving and set up accordingly so I can get in close. With a feeder there is no need for scouting, just set it up and the deer will come to you! Kinda defeats the purpose doesn't it?

Ok rant over......I don't want to turn this into a huge deal but I just had to get that off my chest and maybe this post might get you (or others) to think differently. I'm happy for you (really) and wish you much more success for the rest of the season.

RE: Incredible Game Cam Action Shot - not a debate on baiting thanks

BigJ12,

No offense taken to your post. I respect your opinion and like I said I didn't want to debate it. I know that many even people who I hunt with are not in favor of hunting over a baited area and honestly, I wasn'treally going out to take the buck, which I had a high suspicion would show up, but I did. I do use the feeder to thin out does, which is needed in my neck of the woods and really don't consider it difficult given my deer density. I'm not looking for approval or thatta boy, because I know it's not a difficult hunting situation and respect that, especially early season. I don't tout myself as the epitime of a hard core bowhunter, although it's the only weapon I choose to hunt with. But it is a reality of hunting in various parts of the country, including Ky and Ks which I hunt. So, I really do appreciate your post. But, I had to post it here where I hang out most fequently and take the chance that some may not share similar opinions or care for it. I hope you understand. I respect all my fellow huntingnet members and their opinions. Well, all except Buckeye, but that goes way back.......kidding Scott.

Don't make any sense to me? Kelly asked that this not be a debate thread, just wanted to show us a cool pic. If you dislike his method then move on, but try not and ruin it for him. I am sure there is a very large number of deer that will be taken in the contest this year over a feeder, but the hunter will leave that part out. Kelly had the guts to post what others will not IMO.

And one other comment, then I shut up. Thanks to everyone for appreciating the rarity of the pic. I know that some of you do not agree with hunting over bait and like I said I appreciate your stance, yet you can appreciate the uniquie moment that the game cam pic caught, which is why I had to post it. I really didn't know if I was going to post it due to the negativity it could create but how many times have we all seen the question asked about actually catching this moment on a game cam? I had to post it and chose only here and one other private site to do so. So thanks for not being too judgemental and the appreciation.

I think it is a great photo.... Feeder or no feeder, I could care less..... In my younger days I was against the idea of feeders / baiting deer but the older I get the more I subscribe to the live and let live mentality.

It's legal so I don't see any reason to debate it at all in the first place.

Congrats on the awesome photo!

I can believe the pic because almost everyone here hunts over corn. I killed my first deer Sunday over my cornpile and it should have been on my gamecam. For one reason or another it wasn't. Either the other side of the corn where he fell was too far to trip the sensor orit's just that the cheap Wildview camera was too slow. I went out and pulled the cam Tuesday and the only pics on it were from Monday night.

I believe it it's real with the good cams out today.

Now...

Thanks for reaffirming why this continues to be my bowhunting forum of choice BY FAR!!!! Even though Kelly asked for no criticism to be delivered, bigj felt he had to have a little say... and I've got to commend both -- and espeically Kelly -- over how incredibly civil the discussion was and howthe commentary was received.

Kudos guys -- seriously -- for acting likethe adults you are. It's why the other site the discussion moved to will never hold a candle to this one in terms of maturity, and why I"ve got4,500 posts or whatevernumber shows up over here (minus the thousands lost in cyberspace, as Matt points out in his sig) and I've got like 500 over there.

Thanks Greg...

Hey, I was sitting here with a buddy and going over the pic and the AT thing and he made a great observation.... if you were going to photoshop it why would you choose to photoshop it under a feeder when you'd know how people might react. Now, there's a great point. Ofcourse he clubs seals over bait, but still a good point.

They say when you take a pic with a deer dont have his tongue sticking out, wouldn't this arrow stickingin fall under that same type of deal? I believe some have posted keep the tongue in before in the past.

I'm with Rybo....its the most amazing game cam photo I've ever seen.

Not that it matters.....but is there any chance the arrow had already hit the opposite shoulder and was back out (instead of going IN)?

Kelly....congrats again on the deer.....and congrats on capturing that shot.

Kelly/KY 09-06-2007 06:20 PM

RE: Incredible Game Cam Action Shot - not a debate on baiting thanks

You know GMMAT, I really don't know. It could be. I found the arrow about 20 yards away broken. There was an exit hole right at the right leg, so it could have backed out.

I have never saw a pic like it and possibly will never again. Just appreciate the rarity of the photo and leave well enough alone. IMO anyhow.
