I think it is mange or some kind of cancer. I feel bad for the Lil' Guy and dont want to shoot him.( notice the fat healthy doe in the background )

I would guess either mange or one ugly summer coat and no place to sit at the dinner table... Wow that is odd, I have seen some deer like that but mostly all were like that when the shedding comes but ya, the big fat doe in the backround is plenty healthy... You should take your pic and see what a local biologist has to say.. Not that they will nessicarily be right but may have a better idea than we do... Hopefully he fattens up and gets rid of the worms or whatever he has, hate to see him go into winter like that.. Might not make it... Too bad to see..

Could be a CWD infected deer. I would deffinately harvest him and have his brain sampled for CWD. best of luck to you this year.

Agreed, the only other thing I could think of is that the patches of fur missin almost look like a little road rash. Maybe he was hit by a car, got a little road rash and hasn't been able to forage. May be a bit of a stretch, but who really knows at this point.
