Default RE: What is the best bow on the market?

That is like asking what is the best car or truck. You will get many answers. In my opinion there is not best bow on the market because its an individual preference. For example, when I bought my current bow I purchased a bow that appealed to me and I was comfortable with. Its above the mid-level bows in price and below the highest priced bows. I could have paid for a more expensive bow, but it shoots as well or better for ME and is a quality bow. One other thing......most if not all bow manufacturers produce at least one quality bow these days.

A better question might be what is the most popular bow? But I prefer to buy what I like, not what is the most popular because its popular.

I agree with cougar mag, that is a pretty vague question and is really an idividual thing. It all depends on your taste, the amount of money you want to fork over, and what the intended use for the bow is. Your physical capabilities or limitations also play a part in it. If you wanted to shoot spots indoors, or do long range target shooting I would not suggest one these 30 inch ATA bows, irregardless of who made it. Nor would I suggest one if you were a very large person. Shure you could use one, but why put yourself at a dissadvantage right off the bat. But for a hunting bow they are the cats meow for sure.

I also agree with cougar, I have not really seen any "bad" bows out right now, even some of the cheaper ones are made pretty well. And if you are comparing simular bows in the same price range, most of them are all pretty equal, it would depend on which you liked best. I am partial to the new Hoyts with the tec risors and to Darton with the CPS cam(I own one). I would guess by cougar's name he likes the Martin's, another excellent company with bows in most every price range. If you like that particular style, same with the hoyts, some just hate the way they look.

Now if you are asking what I think is the best bow for the money right now, I would have to say the Magnetec from hoyt. You get a lot of bow for what they cost. They are damn near as good as the other hoyts that cost twice as much. But darton, martin, PSE, and Parker also offer some excellent bows in the same price range.

Bows that I think stand out as far as innovation and craftsmanship would be target bows from Merlin, Mathews, and Bowtech. And there are also places where can you have bows custom made for you.

I like Hoyts and Martins. But I also like Ford trucks and Skeeter bass boats. Does that mean that Chevys and Rangers are bad? no. Any other questions?

Budbowhunter, its funny you put it in those terms because I drive a Chevy, own a Ranger, shoot Mathews, and drink "Bud"wieser.

No snow, no sledding, hunting season over; stay at home with wife drives one crazy.

Cougarmag said it all. The best bow for you might not be the
best for someone else. You need to go shoot them. Krisken left
two bows off of his best list. They are Hoyt and Merlin. I shot
a Merlin once. Smoothest bow I ever drew back. Considered getting
one but the dealer was too far away for my tastes so after debating
and going back and forth for about 3 weeks I bought the Hoyt Vortec
last year. I'm happy with it but it cost more that my BAR .270

I will take exception to one thing that was said so far.

There is plenty of garbage on the market today, compaired to the top quality lines of bows.

Cheap: Bear/jennings
moderate: High Country/martin
Best : BowTech/Mathews

In archery,Money still talks and if you buy a $200. bow,you are not compeating with a $1000. bow

Krisken.......you really should examine the ENTIRE line of each company you listed and you will see what the others are talking about.

Every bow company makes at least one (usually a couple) very nice quality bows. Most of these companies however realize that not everyone wants/needs to spend $1,000 on a bow to hunt or shoot targets for fun..........so they offer lower priced bows to cater to that market.

PSE, Hoyt, Mathews, Bowtech all offer cheaper bows that I am sure are nice......but not as nice as the top shelf stuff. Offering a lower priced bow doesn't make an entire company garbage.......if it did then all bow companies are garbage I guess.

And Yes before you ask........I responded to this because I shoot a Fred Bear TRX. The TRX shot as well or better then the Hoyt, Mathews, PSE, and every other bow I tried when shopping around. It shoots smooth, quiet, 250 fps with crap all over the string and put a nice hole in a 6pt's heart this past November.

Cheap???........don't think so.

I don't really care for the NAAG line myself either, until you get above $500 or so, but that does not make them junk or unshootable. I know a guy that won Vegas with a $189 Bear bow with steel cables and round wheels. Having nice equipment is great, but 98% of it is the guy pulling the string.

And on a side note, Matt Cleland shoots for jennings. He has his own bow that he sells. It is an ordinary dual cam set up and not really that expensive. This the actaul bow he shoots and he is one the top archers in the country. So yes you can compete with a thousand dollar bow with a cheaper one.
