CAPT Brad, it is either sex. This is a continuation of the regular firearms season but now in most deer management zones.

David, if you would shoot more with the bow we wouldn't need this additional season (;?)

Clarification: The two day special hunt is only in deer management areas C and D. Gotta read the fine print carefully to stay out of jail.

Well, I guess I'll have to shoot more. I only shot 7 with the bow this year. I shouldn't have let all those walk I guess.<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle> That's OK, Len is taking care of the herd for me. Counting his gun and muzzleloaders I think he's up to 14 or 15.

14 or 15??!! Sounds like Md is the place to live if you want to
shoot deer.

Stickerpt...The 6 counties in the middle of the state have NO LIMIT on does. That goes for bow, firearms and muzzzleloader. No daily limit either. And we can bowhunt deer for 4 1/2 months.

Davidmil...where I hunt in southern Md. the deer are so spooked now that they are almost totally nocturnal. You have to hunt right on top of their bedding area. I guess I've been putting too much pressure on them and leaving gut piles all over the woods.

I agree that if gun hunters aint shooting enough deer they should make the longer seasons run all together instead of spreading gun seasons out all year.

RE: AND ONE MORE.... gun season.

Natty... they're night dwellers here to. In fact, the deer we hunt are spooky from day one. The big farm next to us has had major crop damage permits for 3 or 4 years running. The bang them night and day. They have taken around 400 deer off the place in 3 years.(193 the first year) Just seeing a deer is tough now days. The fresh snow showed how many are still running around... but in this suburbia hunting they only have to wander a couple hundred yards to reach a safety zone owned by a tree hugger that thinks they're all cute.

Is there public land in the 6 counties that Natty Bumpo mentioned?

Public land in every county I believe. Maryland only has a few larger wildlife management areas. The rest are small plots from a couple hundred to 5 or 600 acres. Most are on a daily pass type deal. You can apply for a pass a week or 8 days ahead... I forget. This time of year I'm sure they have openings. Most have food plots and are managed for game. Maryland also has some co-op areas that they've worked out with landowners. They're usually only 3 or 4 days a week also run on the day pass system. Liberty and Pretty Boy Watersheds are quite large and are bowhunting only. You send in a form that's good for anytime all season long but you have to do it before now. I think the deadline is November or something like that. Good deer herds stuck away in the corners of those two places. They do get a lot of hunting pressure but it's all bow.

Come on up to Indian Springs, Its zone A so Elmer Fudd can't gun hunt the deer up here.
