We discussed this briefly in another thread, and I am sure it has been discussed on here before, but I am considering using my thermacell this year during archery season. I have used it on my bear hunts in Alberta and they are awesome, but I can smell an odor when I use it, so I have never taken it along in whitetail archery season. Have any of you used the thermacell during archery season, and do the deer seem to be bothered by it? I have to believe that if I can smell it that they can also??

I have been using a Thermocell for about 4 years now and love it,i have 4 of them,Iuse it for Turkey,Ducks and also Deer, i have had Deer under my treestand with it on, For what i have been told it is a natural accruing insect repellent so it dose not spook Deer, but what ever it is, it works
i also use one with the scent pad set-up to help with deer lure scents
you just snap on the pad hold and load the pad with your favorite scent lure

When there are a lot of mosquito's around you have to use something. Deet sprays all smell and do not work as well. Buzz-off treated clothing works but you still have them swarming nearby. Thermacell works the best.
I was dove hunting yesterday and the mosquitos were nasty. After about 10 min. the thermacell kicked in and it was no more mosquitos, That is until the butane ran out!

I don't think twice about using my Thermacell during archery season. I too have had deer walk right under my stand while I've had the Thermacell turned on. The way I see it is that whether you use it or not you are playing the wind because of scent reasons. So the wind is also going to direct any odor from the Thermacell away from the deer.

With all I've heard about the Thermacell, I know I plan to use one this year for the first time. I've used "scentfree" bug spray in the past. I could smell it so I know a deer could...but as someone alreadypointed out, it's about playing the breeze/thermals.

I definetly plan to use mine this year. I have heard that you should use a fresh repelant pad though. That if you use an already used pad that it does put out quit an oder.

If it weren't for my thermacell I'd probably be only hunting half as much in the early season. Also your smelling it because the heat and smoke rise. The deer on the ground can't smell it. I,ve had deer directly underneath me and never knew I was using it.
