Looks healthy, I'd say bad genes.

I thought that at first too, Greg.....but his neck made me go the other way. he looks liek he's got some loose skin (which would bolster the old assessment).....but "I" would expect an older deer to have less definition at the neck/torso union (actually.....I always thought a real old deer wouldn't have much of a transition in that area).

Interesting, though.

To answer the original thread question, though.....there is NOTHING wrong with that deer!

The only thing wrong w/ that deer is this; I'm not seeing him broadside at 20 paces through a peepsite using him as a backdrop to check the brightness for my pins!

He's got some sway and a little gray in the face but he's no where near that old to where he's gowing downhill. It's pretty simple, not all bucks grow big antlers....perfect example.

I think he's mature, and just going down hill as well. Look at the sag in that belly. He was ouncethe boss.[&o]

my first instinct is he is old. looks like a BIG old buck to me...

sometimes people wonder why i count points...even on big boys...thats my reason right there.

last bow season i had a 2.5yo 6pt come by. 16-17" wide..tall..kinda thin in the mass though..i called him heartbreaker...i had a spot on my wall for him...not a monster..but would made a heck of a first bow kill for me...never seen again. heard through the grapevine he was killed opening morning of rifle and the shooter swore up and down he had 7. i had him in bow range with 7x binocs on him for 5 minutes within 50yds...he didnt have no 7th point...he would been a dandy this year... funny though...once i started questioning, noone knew the guy...landowner doesnt hunt..just heard the story and passed it on i guess..

Iknow the restriction, but why is it in place.... So people dont shoot young deer. Correct? I think there should be an exception. If that is a 4.5 yr old deer I dont think you would get in trouble unless the officer was a ball buster...
