ticks?!?!?!?!!?
well. not good news at all. went today to hang my deer cam, and was walking out with my GF and looked down, and was covered in teenie, tiny little critters. at first we thought they were ants, then spiders, but after closer inspection, we see they are ticks - ALOT OF THEM. they are very small, about the size of a pin head, but im 100% they are ticks. i mean they were literally crawling alllll over me and her. i guess we walked right in the middle of a nest or something. i picked probably 50 off on my way home, and then got in the shower and scrubbed extremely hard. i thought i had them all off, but i jus looked down at work and am looking at about 10 right now. what should I do? i heard these little ones can cary lime disease, but im not sure if these are the ones. is there any preventative medicine I can get for these little edited. you guys wouldnt believe how many were on me, and how many are still on me. they are probably in places i cant even see [&:]. i dont know what to do. if they arent the ones carrying lime disease, is there anything they can do to harm you? except suck your blood? this is not good, i feel like i will never be able to rid myself of them. now i know why i like winter time. thanks

RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
Sounds like you found some seed ticks. Yes they are nasty and its very hard to get them all because they are so small. Next time spray your pants and socks down real good with permanone and tape your pants tight around your boots and it will cut down alot of them that actually make it to your body.
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
They are called seed ticks and you are going to live.Take a good shower and scrub em real good if you got any left try Sea Breeze or rubbing alcohol. We get them all the time here in Va.
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
alright well good to know. i mean it is unbelievable guys how many. at first, when we first noticed, we each had probably, literally, 2 thousand of them. well we swiped most them off. but when driving home we jus continued to see hundreds of them. then i thought the shower would get then, but i keep finding them. i jus picked like 20 off my legs. im bout to take a bath in rubbing alcohol lol. is it possible that they have the lime disease? i bet there are millions on my hair (above and below my waste lol). i mean i am a get-down type of guy, play in dirt, gut deer, lol, all that, but this is just making me squinch for some reason. i appreciate the help. i will continue to pick them off. olll man, i will also have to vaccuum my truck tonight, im sure there are hundreds in there. thanks

RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
EW!!!!!!!!!!!! yall, lol, i just found 2 in probably the worse place i could ... use your imagination. this is terrrible lol

RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
Ahh, the joys of early bow season......I feel for you.
I had the same problem last year, although they were chiggers....you know they could have been chiggers too.....you can see those little devils. Anyway I don't have a problem with either of them any more. I just spray permanone all over my clothes before entering the woods this early in the season. I've had hundreds of dead chiggers on my jeans from the permanone. It seems to work pretty well. When it's time to hunt,.....NO SPRAY.....just suck it up... tip toe, and dodge the thick brush, and let those little edited eat! |
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
True story....
I hunt in NC....and I've never found a tick on me while deer hunting.....NOR have I found one on a deer I've taken. I guess I'm lucky. |
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
OMG!! I've never heard of getting THAT many before. I hate the little parasite bastards.
I would spray some clothes down with permanone, let it dryand put them on for a while. The stuff is supposed to really kill em, maybe it will work even if they're already on you. |
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
I hate to be the bearer of more bad news but more than likely you have a bunch in your vehicle too! I have had them and got back in my truck a week laterand had some crawl back on me. You will need to spray the inside of the car with permathrin orpermanone. Careful on wood finished or plastic products, theywill melt. Carpet and cloth seats OK. Most people that have ever had them before will always spray down the next time. Spray 40% deet on skin and permathrin on cloths and they will leave you alone next time. S_cksI know. I feel your pain.

RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
Which state are you from. We have ticks but not like that, and then on our game we have deer ticks and fleas here?
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
lol. this is making my stomach curl lol. my mom just called the doc and got me some prevenative medicine for lime, so that clears my mind but still, i know ill have them eating at me in the middle of the night. im about to light myself on fire (lol, j/k). i wish they were the bigger ones so i could see them better. but yea, im positive they are ticks. i need to have my girl check my real good tonight, and i wil her. i just pulled two off some really sensitive skin lol. i didnt think there were this many in maryland lol. i must have ran directly into a nest. im not sure if they are just small ticks species, or babiy ticks of a larger, regular species. whatever they are, they got my blood pumpin (prob. b/c they are sucking it lol). is that permone or whatever very strongly scented? could i wear it on stand? this sucks
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
im from MD. o i can gauruntee they are in my truck. i have leather and dont want to spray that. maybe ill just vaccuum real well, and hope to get as many as possible. i mean, i wish i would have a pic of them on mine and my girls leg, it was unbeleivable. at first we thought they were tiny ants because of how many there was. lol i jus bought my truck few months back, what a nice addition to my new truck they are. now i know why hunting is in the winter lol. i have never seen this many in my whole life, combined. usually i will pick off 2-3, but this was 2-3 thousand, and i am not over exagerating lol.
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
I wouldn't put permanone on your bare skin, it's mainly for outer clothing....but it will kill them on contact. (I would spray it in your truck!)
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
im bout to shower in permanone lol
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
Just play Brad Paisley's song in the background when you guys check each other for ticks...It could turn out to be pretty romantic.:D
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
I've never seen seed ticks, nor do I want to.
What you've got to worry about down here is mainly deer ticks and CHIGGERS... I hate chiggers... [:@] |
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
the best thing to do this time of year is to treat your pants with permanone.
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
Haha, funny you should post this. I just got home from scouting and had the same thing all over me. I bring along 2 sets of clothes when scouting this early in the season.
Just 2 hours ago I looked down and saw the "nest" crawling all over me. I go back to the truck, pull my clothes/boots off and throw those in the back of the truck. Then I pick off as many as I can and put on my other clothes. Go home and scrub like hell in the shower. The joys of being a sportsman. And yes, there will be a lot in your vehicle. Have fun checking each other for ticks.:D |
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
Just found this.
‘Seed Ticks’ Don’t Exist MANHATTAN, Kan. – "Seed ticks" are a case of mistaken identity, not an actual tiny pest. "Basically, they’re the larval stage of any tick species," said Kansas State University entomologist Ludek Zurek. "In Kansas, that primarily means seed ticks are the larvae of lone star ticks." As such, they deserve the same respect as their disease-transmitting parents. "Lone star ticks – one of the most common species in Kansas – need a blood meal in every growth stage except the eggs," Zurek said. "Unlike most ticks, lone stars can and will bite people when they’re larvae and nymphs, as well as adults." – Source: K-State Research and Extension Entomology |
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
looks like i got a long night aheada me. ducsauce - were they the realllllllllll small ones, i mean almost invisible. i would rather have the larger ones, atleast i can see them. i mean i must have hit the motherload ya know, THOUSANDSSSSSSS lol. i hope they dont carry lime. i heard the small ones can carry it. i leanred my lesson ,that was my first time scoutin this year and wont go back without shorts. lol, my girl had on flip flops and boxer shorts, i just called her and she said her sister just pulled off like 10 of them. freaking nuisances. i jus want to get home and check realllllll good for them, i wish i could leave work now. lol. i just felt something crawling around "downtown" and was prayiiiiiinnnggggg that when i looked, it was just an itch or something, well low and behold it was the demon bug. they are probably having a feast on me. do they crawl into you skin? or jus sit there and suck the blood. each time i pull one off, and i do mean PULLLLLLL,it leaves a damn red mark. i didnt even see this many while turkey hunting. does anyone know about when they start to die off? will i still be seein alot in early bow season (SEPT 15)?
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
now every time i feel a slight inch or pinch, i look and expect to see the little devils. i would rather have walked thru a bees hive lol, or a bear den (j/k again)

RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
slight ich*

RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
We have lonestars REAL bad on Long Island. CErtain areas are wors ethan others. Some areas I would never even venture to this time of year. The lonestars are nasty. They actually seek out a blood meal like a Mosquito. The can seek the source of CO2 for I believe 50 feet away. From what I understand the larvae do not transmit disease. They havent had a blood meal yet to aquire any. Tick in general carry disease only after the first blood meal. The most popular host for disease in my area I believe is the white footed mouse.

RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
i feel like im hosting a whole party of them right now. they are having a good ol time.
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?

RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
Your crazy!!! I would leave now and take a shower. You are going to be itchy as hell for days!!!! use some masking tape and rub it all over you body.
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
EWWWWWWW! lol i feel for ya. I had a ton on me one time and I about had a heart attack.
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
what do u mean masking tape? to pull them off? how should i use the achohol? i mean if i see them, i can pull them off? or does the alcholkill them on contact? just pull off another. they are unstoppable lol. they are preventable, but once they take over, seems like a losing battle. lol.
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
o yea and i wish i could leave, but i would be fired. im not suppose to leave til 830, but i talked them into 800. only half an hour
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
wrap masking tape around your hand sticky side out and let it roll over you body. the ticks will stick to it.
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
ky deer hunter - what the hell is that in that first pic? is that all ticks?
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
that is all ticks. If you noticed them on you at the instant it happened you would have seen that brown mass and then you could watch it desperse about your legs!
|
RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
lol thanks for the visual. but yea, i will do the masking tape tonight. i mean, i guess i jus walked right thru the damn nest. its like they were waiting for someone to walk by and called all the troops.

RE: ticks?!?!?!?!!?
I've gotten into those boogers several times, they are bad around here. When I get into them I feel the tub up with water and add one cup of bleach, this will kill them and then take a credit card and scrape them off while I'm in the tub, then rub down with alcohol. Get ready you are going to itch for the next 3-4 weeks.
