Tribute vs. Drenaline
Well, a few months ago I purchased a BowTech Tribute after trying a few Hoyts and a PSE. I liked the speed and how quiet the BowTech was so to me, there was honestly nothing better as far as I could see.
A few weeks ago my father decided to buy a new bow to replace his old Browning. For some reason, he wouldn't buy a BowTech, he said it was too heavy and I think the other reason is because he didn't want to follow suit with me. Anyway, he settled on a Mathews Drenaline and he paid $649 for it, brand new at a local dealer. He brought the bow over this weekend and I could not believe how light it was. It is only a few ounces lighter than my Tribute but I could definitely feel it. He climbs a tree and shoots the bow at our targets and I was shocked at how quiet it was. It is truly quieter than my BowTech Tribute! My uncle also came over with his new Drenaline that he bought the same day as my dad for the same price. He shot his bow and the only sound I heard was the whistle sound coming from his new G5 Montec broadheads. Now, my father and I shoot a few different things. First, I shot a whisker biscuit and he shoots a limbsaver drop away but you would think that would make his louder. I shoot a peep-sight with the rubber tubing, he doesn't, this probably causes some of my sound. Finally, he shoots a LimbSaver S-Coil 4.9oz stabilizer and I shoot the WildThing stabilizer. But we shoot similar arrows, with exact same broadheads, Rage 2's. I shot the Drenaline and I could not believe how smooth it was, how quiet and how well the bow handled. Had I known this, I would have a Drenaline now instead of my Tribute. Don't get me wrong, the Tribute is a great bow, its just the Mathews is better bow for the same price, if you can get it for that price! I took my Tribute down to the shop I bought it from later that day. I had them remove the peep-sight that had the rubber tubing and replace it with one that didn't have tubing. I also removed my WildThing stabilizer and replaced it with a LimbSaver S-Coil 4.9oz stabilizer. The bow is a little quieter...more like the Drenaline than before. Its a little lighter now without that huge WildThing stabilizer but I am keeping my whisker biscuit, for now. Anyway, if I could find someone to buy my BowTech Tribute with a WildThing Stabilizer, whisker biscuit, Trophy Ridge sights, BowTech quiver all set-up for $650 + shipping, I would go down to that dealer and buy a Drenaline. Mathews makes a great bow! |
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
You never really realize how quiet those mathews are until someone who doesn't own one shoots with you. I have a swithchback and love it. I have a buddy who had a martin until he shot with about 4 of us who had mathews, he could not believe how quiet they were, and I could not beleive how loud his was. You can definetly see the difference when they are side by side.

RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
No regrets on my Tribute purchase. Shot my dad's XT and I prefer the Tribute - it is also a
faster bow. With the addition of a STS (which is basically built into a Matthews) I didn't notice much if any difference in noise and vibration. Some people like lighter bows, I like medium weight. While the Tribute is clearly a little heavier than the Drenalin, the 07 Allegiance is a lot closer in weight to the Drenalin. |
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
What is STS?
|
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
How heavy are his arrows? Yours?
Need more info. Mathews indeed makes a great bow......but so does the company that you already own;) |
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
I shoot Epic ST 400 and he shoots the Epic Light Speeds.
|
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
Oh yeah, one more thing, we both have a 29" draw and his bow is set to 63 lbs and mine is set at 68 lbs.
|
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
Your findings in regards to noise interest me. My business partner shoots an '06 Tribute and I shoot a Guardian. We have both shot side by side with guys shooting Switchback's, XT's, and Drenalin's. I have always noticed that our bows are every bit as quiet as the Mathews bows, and sometimes more quiet, especially in regards to the Guardian. I shot the Drenalin quite a bit before going with the Guardian. I really wanted to stick with Mathews because I had shot their bows for so long, but I really felt that the Guardian fit the bill better, as far as what I look for in a bow. I'm with GMMAT on this, I would like to know the specifics of both yours, and your Dad's set ups. Not to start an arguement, but to maybe see what the cause is. I have been around quite a few '07 Tributes as welll, and I don't see any reason why your bow shouldn't be as quiet as anything else out there. You have a great bow.
|
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
How heavy are his arrows? Yours?
Total arrow weight (I would assume) would have a lot to do with how quiet your arrows are. Arrow/fletchings/wraps/BH/etc... TOTAL arrow weight. |
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
Also, have you ever had someone shoot your bow while you stood away from it? The bow sounds much quieter when you're not firing it right next to your ear. The Tribute is a really good bow. Put a STS or a MeanV on there and it will be even quieter.
|
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
Which one was easiest to draw? Which one had less hand shock?
Tom |
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
Ok, what is a STS and MeanV? lol
I will have to find out the total weight of his arrows and I will check mine as soon as possible. Would arrows really be the cause of "bow-thwack"? Maybe I can take a short vid tonight to show you guys what mine sounds like...then you can tell me if it is normal...if not, I am calling BowTech! lol |

RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
Well I can say anything about your Tribute but I've had my Drenalin since this Spring and I love it. Good Luck.

RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
I had the same problem with deciding on which bow to buy the tribute, drenalin, was my first to decide from and had settled on the mathews was saving me money to go buy one and just so happened to go in this little shop and shot a ross cardiac and it blew them both away in my opinion. It might not be as fast and might not have a mathews name on it. But it is the smoothest draw cycle and most comfortable bow I have ever shot. Alot of people just by a bow because of the name. But I have never been a mathews or bowtech fanboy. I by whatever bow feels best to me..

RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
Sometimes! I still think I have a better bow but my main concern is how quiet his bow is vs. mine.

Please let me know if this movie works...I had to host it through Photobucket.

RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
Well, all I can tell you is from my experience of comparing when I bought my Tributeby shooting them both, and with the guy I shoot with weekly having a Matthews, and his constantly remarking how much faster and quieter mine is than his--that I would have to say that we are on opposite spectrums as far as experience goes. My Tribute is set at 74 lbs, and his Matthews at 55, and yet mine is quieter, and the difference would partially account for the speed difference. A few ounces means absolutely nothing to me. I prefer some weight for aiming stability. So my advice---buy a Chevy!!!;):D

Anyone with any comments on the sound of the bow?

Got another video...this time the wife helped. Its at 25 yds...please let me know what you all think of the sound of the bow.

RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
Good. It does sound a little better since I replaced the peep-sight and the WildThing stabilizer...maybe that is all it needed.
|
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
Make the whisker biscuit and itll be as quiet as you cna get it without an sts, the biscuit is the only thing making noise right now. It sounds great to me. I took my bow to mathews country with a hoyt and my ally was the quietest one there;)
|
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
I shot them both and went with the Drenalin...i liked it a lot better. It just felt so right in my hands and i couldn't be happier. I'd suggest getting one if you can and if its what you really want go for it.

RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
I listened to both videos and honestly, I can't hear a lot of noise. To me, the arrow striking the target is no louder than the release of the arrow.I shoot a tribute set at 28.5" 70# and just the other day I had it over at a diehard matthews man's house shooting and he was impressed with how quiet and fast it was. He's not the kind of guy who will throw compliments around just to make someone feel better. He owns a switchback, and couldn't find anything bad to say about the tribute, except that I had a WB installed.I love my tributeand don't think I'll be looking to upgrade anytime soon! It is a heavier bow, but it's not like holding an 8# anchor.

RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
The Drenalin is the quietest bow I've ever owned. I have a CSS on it and no string silencers and no Limb Savers, Limb Jax, etc. I was shooting with a buddy who has a Commander, and he commented on how quiet my bow was. Don't get me wrong, the Commander and the Tribute are both very quiet bows and certainly quiet enough for deer, but I'm very impressed with the Drenalin.
|
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
I think your are fine. The arrow hitting the target is the loudest thing you hear. You could put a STS or a Meanv on it. Also, you could put a Vaportrail Limbdriver rest on it to replace the Whisker.
But, You are fine for the season. Don't worry about it. Sometimes we have second thoughts and doubt our decisions, but Bowtech makes on hell of a bow. Enjoy it, and good luck this season. |
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
I myself have been a PSE man until recently. A few friends of mine have been shooting/hunting with Mathews for some time now and love them. After purchasing a "new" PSE Firestorm Lite bow 2 years ago, I too had to change and go to a Mathews.
The bow I got was the Mathews SwitchbackXT, and I now wonder why it took so long to get one. It is by far the quietest bow I have ever shot, it's very forgiving and extremely accurate as well as fast. Have heard good things about Hoyt's, Bowtech and others but the last couple of years alot of people are swithching over to Mathews bows. If you are like me and watch numerous hunting videos prior to hunting season, you will see that most professional hunters are using a Mathews. |

MATHEWS Switcback XT
Whisker Biscuit Muzzy 100 grain (3 blade) Can't go wrong! |
RE: Tribute vs. Drenaline
As they say on the new Mathews commercials....Best tip of all: Shoot a Mathews! I used to be a Hoyt guy, but after shooting the Drenalin....I put my Hoyt down.
However, my younger brother shoots a Black ICE and I must say...great bow....all about personal pref.I guess... Best of luck... |

So Herd you won't buy a Mathews because your buddies drove you away form them but you've never shot one, seems a shallow to me. But what can you expect from a Marshall "fanboy".:D
