Morning Hunts

Just wondering how early you guys get into your stands before the sun rises? I tend to get in about fourty five minutes before, my hunting buddy gets in about a hour before, and my uncle (he is a gun hunter) get in about 10 minutes before.[&:]

45 minutes to an hour. Sometimes earlier, especially early in the season when I'm too pumped up to sleep anyway.

At least 1/2 hour prior to sunrise usually like to be in earlier if at all possible.

I've learned one thing about the deer I hunt. They stage at different areas on their way "home". If I don't get to stand (at my best morning spot) a couple of hours before sunrise......I'd rather stay home than alert them to my presence.

So....opening morning....I'll be in my tree around 4:30. I can promise you the nap will be heavenly, though!;)

Pretty much the same as gmmat between 4:30 and 5:00 AM.

I've found that me clomping through the woods in the dark spooks more deer than if I wait until I can see a little plus using a climber I need to be able to see what I'm doing so I wait until I can see a little before I hit the woods.

I like to get in about an hour before sunrise. I use a climber mostly, and I can get up fine with my headlamp. One morning last year it was real foggy and when the fog cleared, I was up about 35 feet! I couldn't see the ground with my lamp because of the fog, and I was climbing real slow for noise precautions. I figured I was up a little higher than usual...but not 15 feet!

I climb up 30 minutes before first light. I try to sleep in that 30 minutes because thats when your eyes play tricks with you and make you think that everything in the woods is s deer!

One thing I've learned over the years.....

If you don't use a headlamp....our eyes adjust "pretty well" to the low light....especially with any appreciable moonlight available.

I find that, although I have a light with me....I RARELY use it...not even to get my climber ready. My haul line lets me know how far up the tree I am. If I don't have a pre-set spot to get to in the tree (rare).....then I know when I reach a certain height (run out of haul line).

I go out many times without a light....and I go early.

I agree, I have walked my woods enough to know where I'm at, even in the dark. I always carry a light, but I only turn it on if I hear scary noise;)

45 minutes to an hour. I agree about our eyes adjusting to low light. The only time I use my head lamp is during gun season when there are "extra's" who seem to come crawling out of the woodwork.

The woods I hunted last year were all new to me, so I needed the light. ALso, they are FULL of honey locust and the spines on those things will mess you up big time if you wander into one. Normally I use my headlamp, but on the red light function.

I like to be in the stand about an hour to 45 minutes before sunrise, if I'm using a climber I try to time it so I'm all done climbing by that time. And I use the red lens on my headlamp so my eyes don't get blasted.

I assume you guys mean first light?

Sunrise is well after first light.....and it's legal shooting time, here (first light);)

I usually get in 15-30 minutes prior to the sky starting to turn blue, the real early stages of blue. It's so peaceful and cold.

Half an hour or so, just as the horizon starts to lighten.

1/2 hour to the usual spots more if needed. I like to carry a light both in and out at dark. Regardless if I need it. It's more so ifothers are there..Even on exclusive farms, I don't want to take the chance of someone being there who shouldn't be.

I usually get in at least an hour before, depending on the stand. It takes quite a while to get the tree-arm and cameras set up and all. Some stand i can sneak in a little later but most im there early, about an hour and a half before sunrise

I'm glad you said that, Jeff, because I was about to. Normally, I'm in my stand a half hour to an hour in total darkness. Maybe we should be using the term "civil twilight".

suprisingly enough at the begining of the season when im all stoked i'll get a ride from someone and get in there at like 3 am and tie myself to the tree set my cell phone to vibrate then set the alarm for around 20 mins before daylight then wake up and drink an energy drink Idk i dont think i spook deer when im tied into a tree sleeping But i might.
Ryan.

anywhere from 20-40 mins.

I try to get there as early as possible as GMMAT suggests. I have spooked a couple of deer on my way to stand/blind, ususally not far from bedding areas a half hour to an hour before first light and I don't like it. In the blind, it's easy enough to take a light snooze and my two man ladders make it easy enough to rest quietly for that time. If you're hunting near bedding areas, which can be done right, you need to get in there plenty early for morning hunts.

30-45 minutes completely setup and ready to hunt.....

Except if I have to walk thru a field to get to a stand setup, I will then wait until first light to make sure I am not running deer out of the fields.
