Update, short season:

Hi yall, just wanting to keep you all up to date. Thanks to Gr8att2d for keeping update on his process since he's over a month ahead of me in his Achilles tendon rupture.

I went today to the surgeon for an update and checkup. He ended up cutting my split off which felt sooooooo good. Once off I looked back and down at my leg to see a 6" cut with about 20 staples in my skin. Ouch, it did not look good. The wife was a little shocked. Well he pulled all 20 staples out.....OUCH is an understatement, man did it sting.

I had a choice of cast colors and he said they no longer had camo so this was as close as I could get. This is my very first hard cast. I know most don't give a damn about it but we share so much here.

The doc mentioned I already have my note to be off 3 months from work, he said today, it might be longer....I don't know...we'll see.

According to Gr8, he's ahead of shedule. I hope I am too. I learned that I didn't rip it off my heel, I did indeed break it in two slightly above the heel. It'll be a slow process, the cast is on for 6 weeks according to the doc, that's into the of Sept then physical therapy, I'm still shooting for a ful 2 weeks in a treestand come Nov....maybe sooner. Keep the prayers guys. Thanks.

Really!

The seasons coming! [X(]

RE: Update, short season:

You just keep doing what the doc tells you. Remember this is not the first one he has seen. He has a little more experiance with these than you do. But that being said, you know your body better than he does.

Iimagine it will be slow progress for a while. But you will start to see some results when the physical therapy starts. That might be where you can gain some time. Best of luck, Rob.

you better have you a good wire clothes hanger.... your gonna need it. i broke my wrist last year, had to have my first cast itchy...very itchy. dont get it wet whatever you do man the smell is awful,

LittleChief 08-22-2007 07:19 PM

RE: Update, short season:

Rob,
Maybe you could have your cast dipped to match your favorite camo pattern.:D

Seriously, I hope you recover soon.

LebeauHunter 08-22-2007 07:21 PM

RE: Update, short season:

Hey Rob,

Keep it up man. There are a lot of people around here making homeade camo :D, so you should
give that a shot with the cast to pass the time.

It's been nice having you posting, but I'm sure there are about a thousand other places you would rather
be than in front of your computer.

tkycaller 08-22-2007 07:24 PM

RE: Update, short season:

Glad to hear your recovery is going well. Imay be up Sat. for a shot at you on your backyard course.....I might even bring a friend just to kick you when your down, I mean what else are friends for?

Rob/PA Bowyer 08-22-2007 07:27 PM

RE: Update, short season:

That'd be great tkycaller (Wags), it's suppose to be nice and I have all day. The only thing, you guys will have to retrieve the arrows for me.;) Might as well take advantage, I am undefeated.;)

RE: Update, short season:

Good to see you keeping a positive attitude Rob. Glad things are moving along well. When something bad happens I always remember things could always be worse. I'll come up there and rig a motorized pulley up in your tree stand for ya if I have to.

Rob, hope everything goes well. like the others say, if ya listen to the doc, and quit shootin off yer crutches, you just might heal up a bit quicker:D

i couldnt imagine being down for that much of the season..atleast youll still likely get the best part...

RE: Update, short season:

Hey glad to hear the news. Here is a word of advice to evry1. Dont be carefuller around hunting season. it will make u very nervous and miserable not having fun. For example im not going to try less in football because i might get hurt. Injurys happen. Now there is an excetion like if u have outfitter paid off and did not hunt it yet and its non refundable.

Rob/PA Bowyer 08-22-2007 07:41 PM

RE: Update, short season:

Germ, thank you and yes, the nursed shaved my leg, she offered the second one up for free and I said no thank you.

outdoormafiaKP, thanks and see above, my other leg is quite hairy. ;)

Chris H, thanks, I know I'll miss the begining of the season and I know me, I'll be in a tree somewhere come the two weeks of Nov.

MO Bowhunter, thanks and uh, thanks.

jmbuckhunter, thanks, I'm hoping to have the same results as Gr8....I really do, he's ahead of the curve.

manuman, I know, I know...I'm racking my brain for the best blind setup....

greenboy, thanks and it's all a possibility, like I mentioned above, I know me. :)

Sliverflicker, yupper, the doc has no sense of humor but I trust him to know his stuff.

buck master 101 thanks dude, I know not to get it wet, didn't even think or know about a smell. I asked my wife for a cloths hanger, she denied my request. I have several itches now......hhmmmff.

LittleChief, I visited a good friend of mine that was in the hospital, he's also a very accomplished artist here and specializes in wildlife. He said he'd paint it whatever camo I wanted. I thought that would be awesome....and thanks.

LebeauHunter, thanks and your right, very right but I'll tell you, I don't know how I would keep ahead of the contest if I was healthy, I mean I don't think I've ever had so many PMs...it's all good though.

Diesel77, thanks and I'm trying. I know things could be worse, for instance, if this happened a month from now. At least at this time I'll get out, in prime time. I appreciate the offer to man. lol

tkycaller, bring it on, and how embarrassing when this crip kicks your arse, I have a new target too. Kurt's coming up Friday to help me set it up and get his arse whooped in shooting too. ;)

BowhunterJim, thanks and great advice, be careful out there prior to hunting season. I should have known better than to jog down my porch and leap off like that.....lmao.

mauser06, thanks captn....I'll be shooting Friday and now it sounds like Saturday....it's all good.

Good to see things moving along Rob. Whatever you do don't push your therapy or limits set by your doc. Worst case scenario is you loose some time in the woods, but it beats the alternatives of things never being right again. I'm sure the wifey is keeping ya on a pretty tight leash anyway...lol

You know, Rob,if I were in your place right now and I were going to pursue that option, I think I'd try to find a female artist since the artist is going to be spending quite a bit of time painting the upper inside of the cast.:D

Rob/PA Bowyer 08-22-2007 08:33 PM

RE: Update, short season:

Rattlesnake1, thanks my friend. I totally agree but I know me...and your right, the wife keeps giving me lectures.

LittleChief, lol tru dat however, the cast only comes to my knee and he is one hell of an artist....we'll see, I'll just make sure his wife and my wife are in the room. :D

Rob, hope all heals well and you can make it to the rut! Think about using magic markers on that thing. Maybe you can make it look like enigma!Or they could just send you a xl sleeve to pull over it! Chuck would do that I'm sure!

as for the not camo problem, do what my neighbors did to their truck - spray paint it camo! [8D]

mobowhuntr, lol, thanks for the laugh. That's the first and only time that leg has been shaved....well I remember them shaving my axles back in football when the wrapped them.

ducsauce, thanks dude..

Q2, I have to give you that one time in the 3D pop up. I didn't say I couldn't be beat elsewhere...lol I've had my ups and downs, Get it pop ups...lol but when it come to backyard bucks.....not yet, I see I have challengers this weekend. ;) Trying to take advantage of a guy when he's down huh?

my7pointmonster, lol thanks.

Dr. Andy, thanks for the PM, good idea. The cast comes off in 6 weeks, that's long vefore prime time. According to Gr8, I'll get a walking cast, or boot next. We'll wait and see how all that goes.

JoshKeller, LOL, spray paint...I'm trying to think if I have anyone who airbrushes...lol but like I mention to Dr. Andy, it comes off in 6 weeks and I'll have to see what else I get on.

Rob, hope you get into the woods soon. Like some of the others said spray paint and Sharpies come in many colors, camo it up. You could also go with the Camo Duct tape!!!

RE: Update, short season:

Rob, When my cast went on they told me 6 weeks too. But my next appointment was in 3 weeks and he took it off then. When do you go back? Staples huh? I never had those..but I told ya, when they took my stitches out ooooowwwwwie.
Mine was half off the heel and it took a chunk of bone with it and the other half broke above the heel. Mine looks and feels good. It's still weak and slightly swollen still at the internally stitched area. I'm taking some steps here and there without the boot [:-]. But a week from today I should be done with the boot. So I'm not really rushing anything.

Hope you got a shower witth those corner seats. Man that's a pain. Double garbage bag and a couple good rubber bands.

I hope your recovery goes as well as mine and your schedule gets bumped up. What the heck would we have done without our wives. My mother-in-law even brought me a bell in case I needed anything I could ring it for Lori....My wife, looked at her mom, and said, "What the hell were you thinking?" lol But she was a saint through the whole ordeal. We played alot of scrabble!

Broke my fibula in '94....and perfected the shower scene. I just laid down in the tub....hung my right leg (depends on which way your fixtures are oriented in your shower if this is a big help, or not ;)) under the liner and over the edge of the tub.....and took my showers, that way. No bagging.

GR8.....my mom's ranked 3rd in the world (;))in Scrabble....and we have a little note board (chalk) in our kitchen right now with a running total of how our annual series is going.:D

Great to hear your making progress....hopefully you will heal faster, so you can get out there sooner!...they do make some nice camo cloth tape that would spiff that baby up nice[8D]

Rob/PA Bowyer 08-23-2007 07:24 AM

RE: Update, short season:

wvubowhunter, thanks man.

Gr8, Sounds like I really am on the exact schedule. I go back in 3 weeks he said to inspect the cast. Does that mean they take it off and check it out and if need put on another? Yeah, the staples were ooooowwwieie.
I'm really hoping to judge my schedule by yours, your what right now, a little over 7 weeks almost 8 weeks into yours? That would put me the first of Oct...I know I'll miss the opening weeks but I'm really hoping for the first two weeks of Nov realistically. Actually our last two weeks are Oct 29th through Nov 10...that would put me at 11 weeks.....If your doing that well at 7, I'm really hopeful. So far, it's all about baths and I hate baths. I did enjoy my jacuzzi tub..mostly I use the downstairs tub but the jacuzzi tub is a bonus when I use it. In the master bath is a corner shower, I haven't even attempted a standup with barriers for the cast....I'll suffer with the tub for now.

GMMAT, Funny, I thought of exactly that with the downstairs tub. It wouldn't work on the upstairs corner shower (all glass) but the tub downstairs is positioned so I can let my left leg out and shower facing the fixtures. Good thinking. And Gr8, I've seen the scrabble board results. ;)

finner, thanks and I hope so too, again the cast comes off in 6 weeks, hopefully 3 like Gr8's did....no need to camo it up then....just whatever else I get on. lol

My tub and shower are seperate in the master bath..but sounds like a good idea for that type.

Really Ranked 3rd that's awesome.. I didn't even know there was a national ranking. I would love to have her kick my butt just to learn. Obviously she knows all the wacky "scrabble" words..thats the trick.

What kinda score does she average in a 2 person game?

RE: Update, short season:

Rob..I don't know why they say the 6 week thing and then change? I would imaging IF they were to put another cast on they'd bend the foot up even more. (by the way how did that feel when they started bending the toes up? little scary huh) The 28th will be 8 weeks after surgery for me.

That little saw they use to cut of the cast will get your attention too...actually it only vibrates but it looks like a little radial arm saw.

It was a joke, GR8....lol. My grandma was a freakin scrabble whiz, though.....and the apple didn't fall far from the tree. My mom, who hasn't much formal education, can absolutely SLAY people in Scrabble. She's really a good player.

Rob/PA Bowyer, good luck on the recovery. I have been in cast's many times for my knees. Let me tell you the worst part is the itching as mentioned before. Hope all goes well and ahead of schedule. My knee's almost healed faster than projected and seriously, I was in a ground blind with a cast and crutches. You can always get the camo wrap for your cast. LOL
