I have just acquired a new piece of land to hunt and have never walked it. Season starts Oct. 1. I have looked at topos and have a few good ideas where to put stands however I want to walk the property and see for sure. How soon do you hunt after you place your stands?

Ive noticed around where I hunt now and in past places, that if I set up a stand or a feeder and then hunted it that afternoon or watched it; deer would show up just wandering through. I think that they were there investigating the noise. One particular occurance comes to mind. I set up a feeder and then watched it that afternoon. My dad and I were extremely noisy setting it up (drove the fourwheeler in, yadda yadda yadda) But I saw 4 bucks come through the area and 2 does walk within 15 yards of the feeder. And the kicker is....there was no corn on the ground. Ive seen this happen time and time again. Maybe Im crazy, or maybe deer are more curious than we think.

See there will always be two answers. And the only true answer is deer are unpredictable. All animals are unpredictable. In my experiences as previously stated I did not see those 4 bucks at that feeder the rest of the season. But that doesnt mean that they didnt come through there. You can make an estimated guess at what an animal will do but thats about it. There are so many factors, wind, scent, animals temperment, urban activity, weather, season. This is why we love to hunt. The challenge. And thats why when I see some of the questions posted to the forum I get kind of ticked because I cant actually give you an answer to it because I havent hunted there, I dont know anything about the area, nothing. [>:]People can only refer their experience with it to the question asker. Not that it will do any good. It can only give them an idea. They may try it and it not work. Oh well....Sorry I went on a rant......Im better now

I came out of the woods one night, early season. It was dark at my tree stand but light enough when I came to the open field. I notice a 9 point and a 4 point in the field. I sat and waited till they left the field. I marked the spot. I came back out the next day on my lunch break and put up my stand next to the trail. I left and came back for an evening hunt and killed the 9 point leaving the field in the same spot next to my stand.
