Fast enough to go through a deer. More importantly accurate enough to be right on it’s mark.

I wonder if the question would have been posed if the archer was only getting mid 250's? :D

I'm getting about 260fps from an '03 Razortec. Doesn't seem too fast compared to some of the speeds currently obtained, but I always managed pass-thru's with my darton sl-50 back in the early 80's -- and I was spittin' out the arrow then at only 175fps!

RE: ok how fast are your bows shooting

I dont believe the 329 fps... I have a new vectrix, 80 pounds with a 28.5 inch draw and shooting the 3-49/390ACC superlite arrows and am shooting 294 fps.. I know the 300 fps bows are out their I have seen them shot through the cronograph, but, as a bowshooter and hunter whenyour bow isset up for bowhunting it is really hard to break that 300 fps mark.. Especially if you have the things on your bow that you will have when the time comes that you are in the tree.. I am not saying they are not out their, because they are.. I have seen too many guys talk about their bows that shoot 330 fps and when it is nutcuttin time they shoot through the crony and all of a sudden it's, well they advertise that the bow shoots 330 fps, yes that is in their studios, no wind no nothing and maxed out with the lightest heads, arrows and crap... Where I am from accuracy is more important than speed, I know in the west and southwest you do need to deal with deer jumping the string, here if you are shooting a ethical distance, no deer should be able to do that...

Last time I checked I was in the high 260's or the low 270's. It was 2 years ago when I checked it.I'm more comcerned about how quiet it is.

RE: ok how fast are your bows shooting

I shot the X-force several weeks ago...my curiousity got the best of me. Folks, this bow is the real deal! I shot a 29 inch arrow from a bare bow set at 64 lbs. I was producing 1-1/2 inch four arrow groups at twenty yards. I cannot image what this bow would do completely set up. Yeah, actually I can...PSE recently won the national team championship and three of the four shooter were shooting the X-force (beat the rest of the feild by 19 points). The bow pushed a 385 grain arrow through the chrony at 304 fps.
All this crap about the bow being brutal...well, just that-CRAP! Again, this bow is the real deal!

My current hunting rig shoots a 29 inch, 415 grain arrow, at 292 fps and is set at 78lbs. Plenty fast enough you say. Not to me! I watched in disbief as an axis doe trotted away unscathed. My broadside shot from a mere twenty yards did not get there in time to kill this speedy animal (yeah, she knew I was there). The shot was otherwise perfect. I've hunted enough and have seen enough to know, beyond a shadow of doubt, that speed kills-period! It also translates into kenetic energy (the square of the velocity). I'll take fast over slow any day of the week, especially if it's as accurate as it appears to be.

I am in the process of purchasing an X-Force for future African safaris (my main objective is to set up a big five rig). I have orderedthe X-force with 80 lb. limbs. Can you imagine? Has anyone recently read the article about the Texas girl killing an elephant with an 83 lb X-force? That's what I'm talking about! I use to think 100+ pounds or more of draw weight were required. Not the case with the X-force.

IMO, I think the young man that started this thread is very pround of his new bow!

My allegiance set at 68#s and 28.5" is launching my CE maxima 350's (368 grains) down range at 299 fps.

Never checked my hunting arrow.....but @ 66#'s I'm shooting my 3D arrow at 301fps.

I shoot a/c/c 3-71's with a 125gr muzzy...wrap/blazers weighing in @ 446gr. Let's just say.....

fast enough :D
It's also fast enough to tell me I made the right bow choice.......seeing as how I shot the rest of them beofre making my decision.

Glad you're happy with yours.

RE: ok how fast are your bows shooting

Hmm good question. I haven't chrono'd it since it was new and just set-up. Back then it was 270 @ 65#.. I've added this and took off that and cranked the pounds up to 70#..so I have no idea?

Seems fast..Kills deer..guess that's enough for me.

Beezer 08-17-2007 08:10 PM

RE: ok how fast are your bows shooting

Fast enough to have to chase the arrow 30 yards into the snake and mosquito infested woods when I miss. After switching to lefty and starting with the new bow I discovered that I shouldn't have replaceable vitals, they're fine...I should have gotten a replaceable deer.

I know how fast the Parker Wildfire is rated at, but I'm no where near it. I did get a pass-through on the target deer with a broadhead though.

See Below I'm thinking....once you get over 250FPS does it even matter? My brother rags me about his bow shooting faster....3 arrows later I rag him about my Group!

I'm shooting 285 fps with a 345 grain Carbon Force Radial X Weave Predator 200. The bow is a HCA Iron Mace at 60 lbs draw weight and 80% let-off. I also have a 28 inch draw length.

Man,some of you guys are almost dry firing your bows with those light setups all for the need for speed.I set my poundage, picked out my hunting arrow, and broadhead to match my bow and when the smoke cleared I was shooting a 490gr total weight hunting arrow at 260fps set on 64lbs draw weight out of my commander with a ke of 73.5 that some serious hard hitting combo.

Not sure what mine is but i recently bought the Hoyt Vulcan (SWEET BOW) but i didnt get it because of its IBO speed (325) i got it because i felt like it shot WAY better then the vectrix and 38 ultra. I LOVE the vulcan and will have to get it shot through the chrono. I think im going to the shop tommrow and mybe ill get it done. But i know my old hoyt was plent fast probably in the mid 260s and i know it went through the deer fine. But i can really tell that this bow is fast but that doesnt matter to me. As long as it shoots nice its good enough.

RE: ok how fast are your bows shooting

70 lbs., 505 grain arrow, 264 fps.

Whomever said speed kills better not hunt anything bigger than a deer and certainly not anything that could eat/stomp/gore him... Penetration kills, you get that in 3 ways: arrow mass, broadhead sharpness anddraw force; speed is just a biproduct of draw force given a constant arrow mass.

And did someone actually say that if you're shooting over 250 fps that you don't have to worry about a deer jumping the string?! Hate to tell you that sound travels at 1128 fps and a human reaction time is between 200 and 300 milliseconds (so I'd guess a deer's to be about twice as fast or 150 milliseconds on the slow side). So for a 250 fps arrowat 20 yards the sound of the shot gets there 190 milliseconds before the arrow. I'd say that if you're counting on speed to stop a deer from jumping the string you better not shoot any farther than about 15 yards.

These speed freak threads kill me.[&:]

RE: ok how fast are your bows shooting

I have two bows that are now completely ready to go.

My HCA Iron Mace is 29.5" set at 63# now, and is shooting my 321gr 3-D Arrows at 325fps. I added some of those TRU BALL spider silencer/speed balls and that made it MUCH quieter, and didn't sacrifice any speed at all (which was a real shock). My hunting arrows are Easton 400 FMJs, 454gr and they are going at 280 fps, which is PLENTY fast enough for the german sheppard sized deer we have around eastern VA.

My backup/night urban bow is a Mathews LX, 29" 60#, shooting a 472gr Easton xx75 2213 at 246fps. With those TRU BALL speed silencing spiders (I have become a convert), its the quietest bow I have EVER shot or heard.

My Vtec was at 287-290ish last year, but I took 1.5" off my draw length, so that probably took 15 fps off it... Need to break out the crono soon and try it again.

RE: ok how fast are your bows shooting

Just a tad over 400fps with a 425gr arra and only a 16 3/4" power stroke for 155lbs of KE.

RE: ok how fast are your bows shooting

Shooting about 260 fps with a 390gr arrow, bow is silent as a church mouse w/ this set-up.Good speed, enough arrow weight to not kill the bow, and dead quiet equals a pretty good combo in my book

RE: ok how fast are your bows shooting

Not trying to start anything, but it seems like some of these X force shooters like to start these posts just to say " hey look how fast my bow is. " I have shot one, was not overly impressed. given it was a bare bow, but it felt like a tuning fork in my hand after the shot. Until you can break the speed of sound with a bow, 20-30 FPS here or there makes very little difference unless you are a 3D shooter or shoot at very long ranges(for the purpose of pin gap) . I will take penetration and accuracy any day. Case in point the Drury brothers shoot at around 250 FPS out of there bows, as stated in one of there videos. Nuf said.
