Very fortunate this evening; word of caution...
Guys, we hear it all the time, and if you're like me you just kind of.....take it for granted and say "Nope, won't happen to me."
Well, it can. LONG story short, I was "working" at the shop tonight, and in my free time ( :D) I was shooting the bow. Out of 6 arrows, 5 are in the X and one is consistently 4" high.....I'm puzzled, and keep checking out the arrow. I'm twisting it, looks good. I weigh it, it's right on....I'm absolutely STUMPED..... Anyway, after about 7 or 8 shots, I decide there has GOT to be something wrong w/ this arrow........Still nothing strange when I twist it, so I bend it slightly.....There it is....the carbon buckles......It's got a 1" crack in it..... I cannot believe that arrow didn't blow up on one of the shots. And I'm very, very grateful. Thank you Lord, that would have put an end to my season before it opened. Check those arrows, all....please. |

Check the arrows and don't get lazy/sloppy!
Cut my thumb/finger on one of my beloved Stingers tonight. MAN those things are sharp! CAREFUL BOYS (and girls!)! 9/8 is the big day!! |

Glad it turned out like it did. It could have been much worse. Good reminder.

That stuff gives me chills, I've seen guys find out they had a bad arrow the hard way. Glad to hear you figured out the problem before it got worse.

All of my arrows are new this year. What would cause them to crack? Is it a certain number of times shot? Is it a bad shot into the dirt. I shot through my target the other night and hit the cabinet behind it, could that cause cracking? How often do you guys replace your arrows?
|
RE: Very fortunate this evening; word of caution...
Hitting anything solid COULD cause them to crack, yes.....In my case, I'm fairly sure it was caused by another arrow slapping the side of it.....
How often you replace them really depends on how often you shoot them, and how much they are "abused". And by that I don't mean you physically abusing them, but hitting things with them. Slapping them together, hitting rocks, trees, stuff like that. If you're shooting good, and suddenly you aren't....That is a good indicator that it's time for new arrows. |

Thats what I like about aluminums, they are either bent or broken. No guess work involved.
