We all know that the reactivated carbon thing has been beat to death.

My question is what do we think scientifically and 1st hand experience wiseof the new trend of Silver Lining for scent control?

1st hand experience is that I love it. I think it does a very good job of keepingodor to a minimum. I doubt its 100%, but it certainly works to help. Wear a pair of socks with out it, they smell when you take em off. Wear ones with it and they don't.

i am not sure about the "science" behind it...but i wear the long sleeve shirt by x scent....go hunting here in CA (hiking in back country in 95 degree weather about 6 mile one way) come back .. take the shirt off and it does not smell even though i sweated a lot......

i will look into the science portion of it and let you know what i think.

science behind it seems weak...as far as the evidence they put out to explain how it works.....i am not a scientist just a student studying science...and i will agree that the microbs on us produce a lot of the "smell" coming off of us.....now weather or not silver can stop the growth (when referring to microbs it is always growth in numbers not size of a cell) i am unsure of...

but my trial tests show it makes me not smell as bad

I've worn Medalist Silvermax long underwear and baclava, and Xscent socks for two seasons now, and love them. While my nose isn't as good as a whitetail, when I strip off at night, I don't have any odor that I can smell. I have hunted in weather up to 90 degrees with those results. I haven't had a deer wind me (that I know of) since I've worn those, but I never had much of a problem anyway, since I usually hunt 20ft or more up in a tree.

I'm gonna bump this up to run through the ringer again. Come on nay-sayers..it ain't like you, to let something like this pass by.

I'm gonna purchase another "base layer" type clothing and want to hear the pros/cons

I think it has more to do with location.

I wore it last year I like it. Like Rybo said the socks are great. It cost less than 80 bucks for the entire outfit.

I have been using the "Silver Technology" now for 2 years. I solely use "Medalist Huntgear" (www.medalist.com). Before I switched over I used ScentLoc and Scent Blocker both a carbon base. I have found that with the Medalist I get the same level of scent cover up that I did with the carbon suits. The Medalist clothes are lighter and require no activation. The best thing is that you don't come home stinking after a hard day in the woods. Week long trips in the mtn's, are no problem you can go longer with out that shower, you don't have to take a washer and dryer with you to activate your carbon, and with the Medalist clothes you only need to take two sets of hunting clothes for the week. The second pair is only if you fallin a lake and don't have time for them to dry. I am sold!

I was informed of this post and thought I would chime in here. I was never a believer in scent control until I started wearing the clothing. I have an outdoor show that I run nationally and also on FSNPittsburgh and in order for me to be successful, I have to produce on camera. There are a lot of variables to this besides clothing but as far as clothing that is available on the market, I think they all have some good science behind them as far as scent control is concerned.

The carbon based pieces do control scent but here is the issue. As time goes by, the carbon decreases and decreases with every wash. What you have left is just another normal piece of apparel. Grizzlymman stated it best when he said that when he comes home and takes his clothes off...he doesn't smell. There is your answer as to whether the clothing works or not. I have also experienced this fact with the Medalist Clothing line because the Silvermax liningcontrols odor.

The difference between carbon and silver is that silver doesn't mask the scent. Scent is caused by bacteria and carbon doesn't react the way silver does. Silvermax technology is the destruction of bacteria molecules and that is why it is so good. This will not decrease with washing your clothes. The silver does not disappear and this clothing will last much longer than most scent control clothing on the market.

It is quite simple, you get a better product for a better price and Medalist is the wave of the future in scent control clothing.
