i live in marseilles ( north central illinois ),bow hunt in dekalb and shabbona, and gun/bow hunt in golconda/ pope county. just moved out here not too long ago. i will probably try some hunting at the national guard base here, as well as heideke in morris. hunt4hobbie, do you hunt at the state park there? i hunted pheasant there about 6 yrs ago, and i work down there once in a while

i mostly hunt Macoupin,Jersy,and Alexander countys. i also hunt at Dixon Springs State Park or at least camp there and hunt Shawnee Nat. Forest.
i live in Macoupin county.
It would be cool if a bunch of us could hook up in Oct. sit around a fire and hunt during the day. I would be willing to share my spot in Shawnee. Just a thought.

jimmya, I usually check my deer in at Dixon Springs but have never hunted there, is the hunting pretty good there?

well i found a nice oak ridge. i killed 2 does and a friend killed 1 in the same weekend on that ridge. one of the guys that i was with bought a plat map and it showed private property and the forest. He bought it at the convience store right before you get to the park. They have big bags of ice there also. The others killed 1, in different places and there were a lot of stories/sightings. i really ticked them off because they drove quite a way from the park and i was only 5 min away and a 100 yard walk. But the group only got 4. They were bumming but i thought that was pretty good. i deffinatly have plans on going back. if you are that close maybe we can hook up in Oct. when the acorns are dropping. i also hunt a little south of there in a little town of Tamms. I found a 2 to 3 acre patch of mature oaks in the middle of a been field and it is a magnet during the middle of Oct. when the acorns are droping

George_s, I do not hunt the state park but I do know alot of people
who do, and do very well. You will have to get a permit next Sept. but you will have to have your tags with you. The Anti hunters were taking all the permits over the years. You can hunt both sides of the river. I work over by Heideke and there are alot of deer there. There is a archery range on the 102 side of the state park that has 30 targets in the woods and a deer stand to shoot out of.

If you know of any kids who want to hunt there is a youth hunt held here by our park district. There are alot of deer there and they will see deer there every time out it has'nt been hunted in 20 years.

sounds good, my son will be starting to bow hunt in a couple of years. is that youth hunt gun or bow?
