Natural mineral licks...pic
My wife and I were out bear baiting yesterday and were driving by one of the natural mineral licks up here and decided to stop and take a pic. I should take a sample sometime and have it tested to see what minerals are in it. Would be interesting.
Anyone else have any natural mineral licks near them? ![]() |

None that I know of on our lease in central NC...I have always been intrigued by natural mineral licks, when Daniel Boone was going from NC into Kentucky he found several...

Cool pic dan.
It would be interesting to know the mineral composition. Apparently they like that one. Is that clay and rocks? What type of soil? |

Why I put out minerals......(and I've never seen a 'natural' mineral lick. Cool stuff, Dan).
I read an article last year that documented deer traveling TWO MILES at night to frequent a mineral lick. I know it's good for 'em.....but the less the deer I'm hunting travel....the better I think my chances are. |

This is one of three within about 200 yrds of each other. Crazy thing is, this one was about 1/4 that size 2 years ago. It keeps growing and growing, I'm sure because of rain water leeching it.
There are a total of 5 that I know of off the top of my head....I'll try to get pics of a couple more when I head out bear baiting again tomorrow. Lebeau, it is dense clay with a few rocks mixed in. |
