I'm not leting any does walk in the early season. Not until the end of oct

RE: LET DEER WALK?

nope i will take my fair share of does and maybe one buck if he is the right one -I will keep most of the venision but i also help 4 to 5 families out every year.

RE: LET DEER WALK?

Last year I passed on several does waiting for a bucks to come in. This year, I plan toshoot the first quality deer and put some meat in the fridge. Then I can spend the rest of teh year being selective.

Does are droppin this year. Managing your deer requires harvesting some does. Of course, I'll shoot a monster buck before I would a doe.

treehunter 08-07-2007 09:13 PM

RE: LET DEER WALK?

The buck to doe ratio in Alabama is really loppsided so I think I will try to do my part and take some does. During bow season, its pretty much whatever walks in front of me first.

first good Doe that comes by and offers is going in the freezer. There tasty and its a confidence builder for when that shot at Harry high hat arrives.:D

Definately gonna shoot the first good deer that walks by this season. I spent too much timing thinking about that big buck walking by and worrying if I shot a doe, then all of a sudden I would see the buck running away (it has happened once before)

Good quality shot...the Winn Free Flight gets "Relaxed";)

RE: LET DEER WALK?

Whatever walks by is going to be tried for except for fawns. I will take two does though, because all I would be doing is helping the herd.

I got the best problem to have. On the farm that I hunt there are a ton of bucks and hardly any does... darn guess Ill have to shoot somthing with antlers...cept the 9 pt year and half old deer. he is safe!:D

RE: LET DEER WALK?

I will probably never shoot a doe in my home state. With the max of two deer tags a year, and cow elk walking around, why shoot a doe? :Dwhen you can fill the freezer with elk...

rybohunter 08-08-2007 05:43 AM

RE: LET DEER WALK?

Does don't get free passes as long as I have tags, except as the rut nears.

bryant1 08-08-2007 05:46 AM

RE: LET DEER WALK?

no doe tags=no shooting does for me. I had doe tags last year and I gave all but one to some boys who had never killed many deer. I get a better thrill out of hearing their stories than killing them myself. Besides, i haven't killed a doe in 3 yrs

GMMAT 08-08-2007 06:02 AM

RE: LET DEER WALK?

I'll shoot every doe that offers a shot.....as long as she doesn't have a spotted fawn in tow.....or isn't in spots, herself.

Hopefully I'll be done with this type hunting by early Nov.....and I can enjoy hunting a buck or two. If I tag a buck, early.....I'll rescing the doe moratorium and continue the smack-nannython.

mcouey 08-08-2007 06:43 AM

RE: LET DEER WALK?

In my region of Tennesseee the daily limit for does is 3 per day. That alone tells me that I am irresponsible if I don't shoot any does. I have 4 people who want me to provide them with a deer and I plan on donating an equal amount to hunters for the hungry, add one or two for my freezer and we're at 10 does.

Only after that will I let does walk while I'm seekng a trophy.

Ok, seriously, when I get home to Wi I will shoot the first 2 does that I see. I do it every year. The two areas I hunt in Canada are buck only, so that limits my options.

I'll drop one for sure, but probably two by the time the season ends.

RE: LET DEER WALK?

Absolutely! I let just about all bucks walk if I am not going to mount them. I think does taste better and pretty much just hope for them to walk by offering a shot.

If a wallhanger buck passes by and offers a good shot, I will take it. Otherwise I don't mess with the younger bucks. There is also way too many does in my area.

I love me some does!!

I will shoot does for meat and also for management purposes. The deer population in Virginia is out of whack IMO.

I've decided that I'm going to whack a doe the first chance I get to get my first bow kill out of the way. Hell, I'm 20, I need to get my first bow kill out of the way...doe it is.

roostergun 08-08-2007 11:40 AM

RE: LET DEER WALK?

Ive never killed a deer with a bow either so im gonna shoot the first good size deer that I can get a shot on .

RE: LET DEER WALK?

ive let my fair share of does walk in my past waiting then end up not getting any venison in the fridge so this year im taking the first quality deer that walks past me

RE: LET DEER WALK?

I usually wait until later in the season to fill my doe tags. However; I've got a new bow,so I'm getting kinda eager to thwack sumpin.

Does are in trouble!! Ill smoke a doe in the right situation during the rut as well!

Now, that's what I have in mind. When I run out of doe tags...I'll go get some more!!!

RE: LET DEER WALK?

Im sure i will be letting tons of deer walk this year. If its not 140s plus, or 3.5 or older i probably wont be shooting. I will pass some does but will be taking my fair share of them as well...

RE: LET DEER WALK?

I wont take any does until it gets cold out. then you dont have to worry about getting in a hurry for processing. and can let them hang for a few days if need be.

Ohiobuck25 08-09-2007 09:01 AM

RE: LET DEER WALK?

The buck to doe ratio on one of my properties is so far at of whack it isn't even funny. I need to do some serious thinning out this year. The part of Ohio that I live in allows me to harvest up to 6 antlerless deer and one buck. I plan on taking advantage of those tags this year and maybe donate some of my venison to FHFH programs.

MichaelHunsucker 08-09-2007 09:05 AM

RE: LET DEER WALK?

maybe heres a better question...who wont let deer walk?

Is there anyone out here that is going to shoot EVERY deer they get an oportunity at? [8D]
