Who has attempted this shot...

I was traveling through the great state of PA and picked up the PA Fish&Game mag. The article talked about difficult shots. The one in particular is straight down thru the shoulder blades(spine shot).

Who has attempted this shot and what was the result?

I did it once on a doe, surprized of the outcome, you would have swore she was hit with a canon, droped in the spot she was standing in. Though I doubt Ill ever take that shot again, after realizing she wasnt dead, I had to come down the tree and cut her, seems it just paralized her. I dont know if its age creeping up on me or what, but that really bothered me. So now Ill just go with a clean kill shot to the boiler-maker!.

I have the deer was straight down. It was my first bow kill/oportunity. I aimed for the spine between the shoulder blades knowing if I was a little left or right it would still go through the vitals. Well I hit the spine like intended. It dropped in its tracks unable to walk and then I gave it a quick shot throught the chest cavity. All took about 30 seconds and the deer was dead worked pretty nice actually. My brother has also taken one of those shots on a small buck and hit the spine and did the same thing. Easy track job but it is a tricky shot.

Yea ... I took a shot like that once on a good size doe , aimed just alittle behind the front shoulder and alittle off to the left side of her and made a clean shot thru the heart.
I must of hit part of her spine too cause she didn't run very far at all but when she did , her left rear leg was dragging and when she dropped she was dead within twenty minutes.

I hit a deer in the spine when I was a kid. She dropped right there but was very much alive. When I got down it was pretty dark and she was very much alive. I took a shot at the chest cavity to put it out of its misery. I couldn't see my sights, so I did it on instinct. I thought I missed. I did it again with the same result. So I did it again. This time I thought I hit it as it rolled over and seemed to be fading. I went to get my hunting partner and he came down with the truck. When the headlights came across her, you could see four arrows sticking in and out of her. It took me a while to live that down, as he told everyone she looked like a porcupine. Oh well, now I just slit their throats if they are still alive.

I took the shot last year almost directly underneath me on a doe- she dropped within sight and traveled less than 10 yards- in matter of fact here she is

I wouldn't try that shot if you are shooting a low poundage bow. If you miss the spine and only hit one lung, you will need an exit hole. Otherwise, your chances of finding that deer are slim.

I have shot deer straight down but between the shoulder blades is the wrong place. There's an indentation in the sides right behind the shoulder blades that you should be aiming for. Between the blades is too far forward to hit lung if you slide one side or the other. It's not the best shot at any spot. I've taken it but it's usually a single lung unless you spine the thing. Let 'em walk out a few yards and get a better angle and both lungs. BUT, if you just have to aim BEHIND the shoulders.

This shot will always come under a bit of scrutiny.... I took this exact shot last year as I had a buck approach me head on. I had no shot as he came towards me, and he was going to pass by walkiing directly away. I shot him almost straight down, by bending at an extreme angle at the waist andputtjng my 40-yard pin between his shoulder blades (that right there tells you I'd practiced shooting close; most people have no idea which pin to use on a 2-yard shot). I buried theMuzzy MX-4 between his shoulder blades, taking out the arteries between his lungs and heart and blowing ahuge hole out the bottom between his front legs. He ran 25 yards before crashing, and it looked like blood had been poured out of a 5-gallon pail all the way to him.

Exactly. I shot one that was only about 5 yards away right behind the shoulder from above. He only went about 30 yards befor going down
