Double Bull versus the others
Folks,
I'm trying to decide which blind to buy to use for archery deer hunting. I'm trying to find pros and cons between them all. Now I know that when it comes down to it, it becomes a matter of preference. That aside, I'd like to get some feedback. Don't want to start a holy war, but are there any technical / product spec reasons why the double bull 360 matirx blind is able to command 200-250 dollars more over virtually all of the others> Second question, and be gentle cause I'm not an archery expert - the blinds that offer 'shoot-through' windows, can you really do this and still not affect arrow flight (or have minimal effect?) and resulting shot placement? Do you have to try an arrow or two when you get your blind to see how it works with your particular broadhead, or is this something that those of you that are blind hunters have been doing for years and its really no big deal to shoot through these windows? Given that I want to try the shoot through windows, is there one brand that seems to work better head and shoulders above the rest? Gimme some feedback here, |

RE: Double Bull versus the others
I buy Ameristep blinds and they work fine

RE: Double Bull versus the others
Probably not what you'd expect.....
I own a Matrix and I love it....but if I were going to hunt whitetails out of it....I'd set it up and brush it in. So...if I'm gonna do that....the DB loses some of its iluustriousness. I'd go with a cheaper (not necessarily "lesser") model. I'd be calling Buckeye and ordering the ASAT. |
RE: Double Bull versus the others
Hi hoot,
I have had different blinds but not the DB. I have been in a DB but I do not own one. That being said the material used in the DB was superior to that of my best blind the Ameristep Brickhouse. The DB had the 360 viewable but i can also see in all directions out of my blind if i want to. However I always set up brushed in with the back windows closed so as not to get silhouetted. With the Brickhouse I cut my lanes as anyone would using a treestand. There are times when you can shoot and times you can't. With the size of the windows in the brickhouse I have plenty of shooting lanes. I'm not saying it is the best out there but I can say that for about $149 it has worked well. As far as shooting through the mesh, I and anyone else can tell you it works or doesnt work but my sugestion would be to try it. For me it works. At 20 and 30 yards I get no POI change using a Magnus Stinger broadhead. I practice out of my blind before season with no mesh then just before opener i verify the mesh is not changing the POI. Good luck with your decision. You don't have to have a DB but they are outstanding blinds made with quality material |
RE: Double Bull versus the others
I have heard great reveiws on the ASAT, and have personally seen the double bulls. The double bulls are definitely nice, but I still am not convinced they are $400 worth of nice.
With that said, a blind I have personally seen (on display only at Gander Mountain) that you don't hear much about is the Ameristep Intimidator. It has the 360 degree viewing capability of the double bull, the heavier non reflective fabric, and silent windows that can beadjusted from inside w/ magnets. Plus it's only $249!! |
RE: Double Bull versus the others
Double bulls have superior parts, fabric, features and warranty without a doubt. Only you can decide if it is "worth" it or not.
Good luck with your decision rick |
RE: Double Bull versus the others
The Double Bull hands down. Worth the extra money. The first time I used my Ameristep I took it down and threw it away. If you want quality, you have to spend the bucks.

RE: Double Bull versus the others
To me, the answer is.....how much are you going to be using it.
For me, I bowhunt out of treestands and I turkey hunt (gun) behind a tree or in some brush. The only time I ever use a blind is when I'm bowhunting turkeys. So for me...Hell no it isn't worth spending $300 on a blind. I bought a Ameristep for $50 and it works good. The only downfall if that setting it is a big niosier than I would prefer. But if you set it up before-hand or when I use it turkey hunting, I get out to the woods WAY before the birds even start gobbling, then it is fine. I would rather buy some real pimp treestands with the cash and buy a less expensive blind. Now if you are going to be using it a lot. The I would suggest going with a brand like Double Bull. Because they you will get your moneys worth. So weigh it out. Good Luck |

Oh boy ... here we go again , this topic has been talked to death and talked to death again but to answer your question.
The Double Bull Blinds are simply the best on the market wheather you get the Matirx or the T5 , the quality of their product is outstanding and will last a life time. The only other product that comes close to comparison would be the new ASAT Blind , they both have shoot thru screens that can be replaced due to use and time. Check out their web sites and see for yourself or you could contact gregholland for the Double Bull and buckeyebuckhuntr for the ASAT , they are members on this site and they are dealers as well. HardcoreHunter has both brands and he did a side by side comparison and writen a great review on both , Germ has both of them too , so he might shed a little light on the subject as well. |

I am a big fan of the ASAT Quickie by Eastman. They will stand behind their product and it is about half the price as a DB.

RE: Double Bull versus the others
No way. Double Bulls stink. The Ameristep DogHouse rules the roost. Unlike your big noisy, shiny Double Bull, my little DogHouse sinks into low lying cover. And the tiny windows give me less chance of being spotted my deer. Did that irritate anyone? :D
But in all seriousness, maybe we spend too much time worrying about the best stands and blinds when I remember a certain HNI member whose first initial is T, last initialF and middle initial J, happens to see and slay huge bucks from the ground with no blind at all - just natural cover. Perhaps we should be worried about three things instead - location, location and location. And then find the simplest, easiest, most effective way to elude that huge buck. |
RE: Double Bull versus the others
I had 2 Ameristep Brickhouses....the first one broke on the second setup. Cabelas replaced that one (immediately) and sent me a brand new one. The second one lasted 6 setups until the fabric ripped through where the hubs connect.
Since Double Bull offers a factory direct discount for hunter education instructors I decided to give the matrix a try. This blind is made for bowhunters.....PERIOD. There is no velcro or zippers to make noise. When the wind blows hard, the blind doesn't flap around. The material is superior....there is no comparison In hindsight......I should have saved myself an additional $125 and not bought the Brickhouse. |
RE: Double Bull versus the others
Double Bull all the way. I have noticed expandables shoot semi-poorly through themesh, but fixed blades are awesome.
I bought mine for 5 reasons 1. Fabric - no shine 2. Warranty - LIFETIME 3. No FLoor to make abunch of noise every time i move my feet 4. Easy set up and take down 5. They gave me free stickers. And plan to use it in 3 situations 1. Early season waterhole bowhunting whitetails where there are no trees 2. Turkey bow hunting 3. yote smackin this winter and spring I love mine, but its just exactly what I want. Figure out what and why and buy accordingly. |
RE: Double Bull versus the others
all i need is the ameristep g30 and it only cost a 100:eek::eek:

RE: Double Bull versus the others
I've got an outhouse and a doghouse from Ameristep, both on clearance for less than $30. I'm by no means and great hunter, only one season. But my 7 year old and I used the outhouse and got a turkey 11 days into our firstseason turkey hunting.
I can't comment on how good top dollar equipment works because I don't have the money to spend on it. But I'm sure some others here are in the same position I am, if I spend more than $100 on a "glorified camo tent" I'd better be prepared to sleep in it. Total cost of every hunting item I own is less than $4000 and that includes bow, gun, camo, stands, calls and everything. My Honda Rancher cost me $3700 of that. I'd like top dollar equipment, but if I can start my first turkey season and get a bird within 11 days on my own with clearance and used equipmentwith absolutely no experience at all, I think I'll stay on the cheap end of hunting. I think the most valuable hunting tool anyone here owns is knowledge, and I'm willing to take any of that you guys are willing to give away. |
