Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Just curious, i did last night and was pretty sick about it wanted to see if anybody else has.
|
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
I never have. My daughter has a few times but thankfully she is only pulling 19 pounds so nothing happened. I was still ticked each time though. She hasn't done it in awhile though. Think it was from just being little and inexperienced.

RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Nope and never plan to. Crazy pressure there. Needs a release of it.
|
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
i personally havent, but while i was out at the range, my buddy picked up my bow with out asking (he doent bow hunt) and dry fired it

RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
I never have my brother has though lucky it did not brake the limbs it just broke the string.
|
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Unfortuately, I know that sick feeling. I drew on a doe a couple years ago, and my arrow fell off of my string, due to a crimped serving caused by a metal knock, the slit second before I released. It cost me 250 dollars. Completely shattered my Muzzy fall away, bentthe lower cam on my bow, and ruined the cable and string.

RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Nope ... but I've seen somebody else do it whenhe was in the pro shop looking for a new bow , well he bought that one. :D

RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
I haven't with my bow, but here is a funny story:
Me and my brother were at Simmons Sporting Goods (A huge sporting goods store in NE Louisiana) and they were having some type of hunting demonstration/show. Anyways, there were people everywhere and they had some Mathews bows out on display. Well, my idiot brother picks one up and start looking at it and pulls it back and then his wife tapped him on the shoulder and he dried fired it in the middle of the entire crowd. Everybody just turned and stared at him. Even the guest speaker stopped talking for a second. Some guy that works in the store walks over and tells him that he just bought that bow. Somehow my brother talked/pleaded his way out of buying it. I don't know how he did it, but I thought the whole ordeal was hilarious. |
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
I never have, and hope I never do!;)

ORIGINAL: RDHunter Nope ... but I've seen somebody else do it whenhe was in the pro shop looking for a new bow , well he bought that one. :D I don't think anything can silence a crowd of hunters like the old dry fire in the pro-shop routine.[&:] I actually get embarrassed myself for the poor saps.[X(] |
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
never done it....i generally wont draw unless i got an arrow nocked...then i aim it at something safe...
also wont let anyone draw my bow that isnt expirienced. i watch my "expirienced" friend draw his bow and let it down a couple times....hes just weak and over drawing...when he lets down he usually hits the trigger half way through...i stand back:D he wont touch my bow! |
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
No, Not for about the last 47 years anyway.
|
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
i might have.
i was shooting a hoyt deviator target bow during practice one day and when the shot went off it sounded TERRIBLE. odd thing was though, it hit the target in the 7 ring at 90 meters. i dont know if it fell off the rest and as it was falling my release went off and caught it or what. i immediately took it to lancaster archery and they inspected it and deemed it safe, with no problems. it was an odd, and scary, experience. |
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
I've done it several times, always because I didn't catch a cracked nock before shooting an arrow.
|
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
I never have. However, one of my brother's friends dry-fired my bow. Needless to say, shortly there after the string snapped and it got shot all to crap.
The little worm never paid for it either... |
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
never. and dont plan too.

ORIGINAL: shawneeslinger never. and dont plan too. .........Pay for FroMan's bow???:D |
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Yes, I did it last night. Just got a new thumb release and wanted to see how my draw length changed going from my previous wrist release. Accidentally touched the hyper sensitive trigger. Looks like my bow is fine, had to restring it, install a new peep. I guess thats a good indicator for how good the new PSE X-Force bow is, or I'm just real lucky.

RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Last night must have been a bad night for us...
|
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
I've done it before a long time ago with a 35lb draw. Had no idea what I was doing but it scared the crap out of me.
|
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Follower if you don't like that release you know where to send it ;). Might trade my Little Goose Deluxe wrist strap for it, if you decide you dont like it lol
|
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Now little stupid maybe but im kinda got nervous uneasy feeling bout drawing my bow back even though he said it was ok ya know what i mean...
|
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
No but I hadthe factory string onmy Browning Oasisbreak right at the shot. The arrow flew into the target but the bow still made a big boom. I had it taken apart and inspected, everthing checked out ok. I put on a new set of Stone Mountain Dakota's and shot it the rest of the season.
I was looking over my bowsabout a month agoand found a crack in the upper limb. Very small but a crack none the less. I'm not saying it was from the string breaking but I wouldn't rule it out either. |

RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Umm..im guilty also.. Started shooting a BT release this spring, I eased to full draw, found my anchor, arrow fell off(still dont know how), went to let down and there she went..I was at 3/4 draw at that time though.LOUD.[:@]
A Funnyone:I also shoot a thumb release and i was almost to full draw (this spring also) and the whole release slipped outof my hand..Arrow went airbourne:eek: never to be seen again and my release was found about 5min later..;)I caught a lot offlak from the guys over that one..haha |
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Here's what I did to my old bow after a full draw dryfire. Gouged up the cam, but the draw-length adjustment slider took the bulk of the energy out of it.

RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Quick:
You "practically"dry-fire your new bow every time you shoot it! :D |
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
yep, i was just starting to use a knocking loop a few years agoand it broke when i practice drew it between shots(yea, very dumb not to catch it in time). at the time i had it turned down to 60# instead of up to 70. I think that is what saved me, i had it inspected and all it did was snap several strands of the string, so it was a relatively cheep fix.

RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
I personnaly have never dry fired my bow but my friend that doesnt know that much picked up my bow, drew it back, and with his terrible stance dry fired my bow![:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:o]

RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Oh hell no........I nor has anyone else ever dry-fired my bow:D. Before letting anyone else draw it I give a very long speech about WHY one must never dry-fire a bow. Most get bored[:@][:@][:@].

RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
buddie did i with my bow i ended up throwing the thing away......
|
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
I really dont think most would admit it if they did. Its big taboo here and in the archery world. I did it once.. Never again.. I felt like the biggest loser in the world there for a few minutes. I offered to by the bow right on the spot, the guy was really cool and said he would check it all out and let me know. He felt as bad for me as I did ... I still buy my bows from that man ...20 years later!
|
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
i did buy accident and the string jumped off the cam and got cut. i had to get a new string put on [:@]that stunk Took it to the bow shop and he fixed me up right there . Did this in the morning during hunting season and had it strung and resighted by the after noon .Couldn't of asked for better service

RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Got my first bow for X-mas when I was 11, took it out of the box, pulled her back and let her go!:)
It didn't hurt it and dadquicklytaught meI shouldn'tdo that.20 years later, it hasn't happened again. |
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
I accidently did it once cause of a cracked nock. if i remember it correctly the arrow fell down at my feet(was shooting fingers). The limbs were fine and string was fine it appeared that the limb "jumped' out of the pocket. i sent my bow back to the manufacturer (Darton) and told them what had happened. They replaced both limbs, string, and cables for free, only had to pay for s/h charges butthat was back in 1993.i now inspect each arrow after every shot to insure that it will never happen again.

RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
Yeh... not pretty, i got a good battle bruise with mine not bad though that looked perty rough, was that just the string or flying bow parts?
|
RE: Have you ever dry fired your bow?
I accidentaly did a long time ago. Inspect the limbs and make sure everythings safe to shoot!
