Breakfast?

What kind of breakfast do you eat before going out for a hunt?

MichaelHunsucker 07-31-2007 08:59 PM

RE: Breakfast?

Normally poptarts or a granola bar. I might eat something bigger if staying all day.

mobow 07-31-2007 09:01 PM

RE: Breakfast?

We do the whole nine yards, but only after the morning's hunt, not before it. I bring a couple snacks along to munch on. If I'm sitting all day, I bring more than a couple.....:D

My favorite "stand meal" is summer sausage, an apple and a nutty bar...

Zdeerslayer 07-31-2007 09:10 PM

RE: Breakfast?

Depends... When its just my dad and myself, I have some toast and orange juice, and my dad had oatmeal and oj. But up at camp, we go the wholenine yards, but like mobo said its after the morning sit.

RE: Breakfast?

Since I can not sleep I make a good relaxing meal that will keep me going. After the first week or so I will eat any of the ones listed.

RE: Breakfast?

I'll have the whole nine yards thank you. I have to have it or I'll hear the old gut a rumbling. Not to mention Ive gotta take the old heart medicine and I have to have something to eat, so I dont get sick...

RDHunter 07-31-2007 09:27 PM

RE: Breakfast?

Man ... if you seen the size of mobowhuntr's gut you would say he went the whole nine yards all by himself and didn't even save a crumb for anybody else. :D
I'm just as guilty when it comes to breakfast , I like to eat everything from pancakes , eggs over easy , bacon , hash browns , biscuits and gravy and grits then wash it all down with a couple cups of coffee.
By the time I get to my happy hunting grounds and get all my gear on , thats when nature calls and it's time to take a dump. :D

RE: Breakfast?

A cathead biscuit with deer sausage is a mean way to start my day. I have tried the whole nine yards, the granolas, and oatmeal. The biscuit and sausage is the only thing that does not give me that ugly grumble after getting set up in my stand. Everything else seems to give me IBS.[:-]

I generally hunt full days and don't eat anything for breakfast. My first meal is usually a sandwich around 10:00 am. Then another around 3:30. That's the diet I go on every fall.;)

RE: Breakfast?

Doritos and mountain dew

lrhuntr 07-31-2007 10:16 PM

RE: Breakfast?

Way to pumped to eat before a hunt. For some reason I feel like im going to puke in the morning if I eat something. Not the greatest idea but I manage. Tend to eat while in stand, mostly trail mix to keep the energy up. I will then dive into a feeding frenzy after the hunt.

springcaller 07-31-2007 10:17 PM

RE: Breakfast?

I didn't see it on your poll, I thinkbiscuits with deer back strap is the best.

RE: Breakfast?

Nothing for me. I will usually bring some granola bars or beef jerky if I plan on staying all day. I don't like to have anything in my stomach in the morning because when that food starts to digest is tends to make you sleepy and I want to stay focused.

Finch 07-31-2007 10:47 PM

RE: Breakfast?

I try to eat bacon, eggs over-easy, toast and wash it down with a glass of milk. I gotta have a pocket full of jerkey and some other snacks in my pack. Maybe a can of vienna sausage too.:)

BuckRogers 07-31-2007 11:16 PM

RE: Breakfast?

S'mores pop tarts... "my oh my sure am good!" plus i bring snacks along too due to low blood sugar if I dont eat regularly.

Washington Hunter 08-01-2007 01:20 AM

RE: Breakfast?

Because the majority of my hunts are all day sits, I'll usually stop at a 24 hour grocery store to pick up a sub sandwich and something sweet to get me through the day.

While I'm there I can't help but pick up a couple maple bars and a Monster. ;)

I don't understand how you guys can stay on stand all day eating nothing but granola bars and jerky... After about six hours my stomach is killing me and telling me to either get down or eat something. Damn this fast metabolism... :D

BowHunterFett 08-01-2007 01:34 AM

RE: Breakfast?

The whole nine yards, always on opening day of any season, but if I get up early to hunt, I just as well make it worth it and eat well.

RE: Breakfast?

Sugar free redbull and beef jerky. I sleep enough in the stand, I don't need a full belly to help me there at all......[8D]

txjourneyman 08-01-2007 05:31 AM

RE: Breakfast?

Usually a few pieces of fruit. For all day hunts I carry extra food in my pack.

RE: Breakfast?

Well I can tell you what I don't eat anymore, Raisin Bran and coffee, bad combo for my stomach, two seasons ago on opening day I had this and I wasout of my stand making a bee-line for the cabin about an hour after light. Normally I would handle my business in the woods somewhere but this was not an option this time.[:o] Now I usually bring a bottle of water, a Red Bull, and some granola bars or something along those lines.

rookiebowhuntr_PA 08-01-2007 05:39 AM

RE: Breakfast?

I do the whole nine yards. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Especially on those all day hunts. I usally bring some fruit and granola bars and a water to keep my energy up throughout the hunt.

Sometimes nothing I'm not a big breakfast eater, but sometimes if I'm hungry I have to eat because I know I'm about to go a long time without eating when hunting.
