Start by taking the bow to a pro shop and make sure it is,
1. Safe to shoot
2. The correct draw length and weight for you, not your dad
3. Properly tuned
4. Has arrows that are the correct spine for your DL and DW
Then practice, practice, practice!

First off, get that bow checked out, make sure it fits you, replace any worn or broken items on the bow. make sure the arrows are in good to perfect condition. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE and dont expect to go out your first year and expect to bag a big one. It takes time, and patience, the more you hunt and spend here, the more you will learn what and what not to do. Good luck.

My advice?
Stop right now......put the archery thoughts out of your head.......wait 5-6 years.....buy a porsche with the money you've saved.
If you're dead set on this, though.....go to a shop and make sure that bow is in sound condition....and that it fits you. Welcome aboard.
