Once I sat down and fletched up 2 dozen brand new cedar arrows. One dozen to use with my longbow for a shoot the next day and another dozen I intended to sell. I had the absolute worst day ever. NOTHING went right, except my arrows. They also went left. High. Low. And various combinations thereof. Hardly anything hit where I was aiming. Left cedar shrapnel and wounded trees all over the range.

At lunch, I had to go back and restock my quiver with the ones I was going to sell because I had run out. By the end of the day, I had TWO arrows remaining out of that two dozen. It was the most embarrassing shoot of my life. [&:]

I will point out though that this was old time stuff and not the kind of 3D folks are used to now. The targets were NOT set up in carefully manicured lanes. Many had small openings between two trees, or you had to nearly touch the bark on a tree to hit a 10 ring, or you had to pick holes in brush to shoot through. Kneeling, leaning, all kinds of challenges designed to break your form. Also distances stretched out to 80 yards and more. All men shot from the same stake, regardless of equipment. Ladies, youth and cubs all had their own stakes. We had fun in the old days, but arrows were cheap back then too.

my worst one of the year so far was last weekend. i misjudged a distance and shot RIGHT over a target's back. i know lots of people miss, but this was the first miss for me all year and really messed with me after that. ended up shooting a 320/400.

I probably won't get much sympathy for this one but........

2005 was my first year of shooting 3D, I had entered my first IBO World Championships in Snowshoe WV.
Well long story short I shot pretty good and wound up 2nd overall after 2 days of shooting which put me in the finals to shoot on Sunday for the IBO World Title.
I was unaware at the time that when you make the finals they wipe your 2 days scores out and you start fresh on Sunday with only 10 targets deciding the champion. They took the top 12 guys and at 9AM Sunday off we went.
First target I was NERVOUS[:-] I couldn't get out of my head that I only had 10 targets to go and this was a new experience.
Somehow I managed to shoot an X. WHEW!
2nd target was a 34yd turkey (A long shot for Hunter Class at such a small target) They had it across a ski slope and down in the shadows of a pine tree. To complicate matters the sun was just coming over the tree top and was full bore in your eyes and it lit your pins up like a stop light.

At full draw you almost couldn't make out the outline of the target let alone the scoring area and try as I might I just couldn't get steady or find a spot............5. The only 5 I had shot in national or state competition that year and it had to be in the finals of WORLDS! [:'(]
I got rattled and shot an 8 on the next target and never recovered, and with only 10 targets total I had no chance to come back.

So I went from 2nd overall for the main competition and in position to win a World Title in my first ever try to 9th in the finals and a heartbreaking dissapointment. ONE TARGET. If I made it past that one I'm sure I would have settled down and rolled right through the remaining 8 targets.
(I got over it and have a few titles here and there but that one would have been special)

Yeah, you're right Matt.. I've got about as much sympathy for you after that as you do for me having to see my 162 1/8" buck six times before he offered me a good shot!! [8D][8D]

When I was in college I shot an ASA shoot that happened to come through the State College, PA area. I had been doing pretty good at local shoots in hunter class and usually managed to land myself in the top 10 with a few top finishes.

This was my first sanctioned shoot and I was pretty nervous about the rules and all of the technical things I never had to deal with before. Fortunately for me, the big guns were not in attendance due to the remote location and I shot pretty well.

The Sunday shoot was for determining places. Anyone could shoot, but scorecards would only be collected for those in the top 10 from Saturday which I was in. Well being in college and happy with my shooting on Saturday I celebrated a bit too hard, so the fact that I even showed up Sunday was a miracle in itself. Needless to say I didn't shoot well, and even heard a guy in my group say, "this guy's turning in a card?" I was angry, but my shooting justified the comment.

When asked for my card at the end of the round I told them they could just put it on the bottom of the pile and went home and went back to bed.

I done a 3D shoot with a bunch of people that I just met. I talked with them for months prior to this event on an online forum but this was the first time I met them face to face.

Well....not shooting 3D before I came in 2nd to last out of about 40 guys. I was only 1 point away from winning the "pink" bow. ( Someone brought an old "yard sale" special and painted the WHOLE BOW pink ) It was the trophy for last place.....

mine was last week. i was on fire in the beginning. first 13 targets i shot mostly 10s. i was just shooting well. then i noticed my peep needed rotated so as always i corrected it by moving my loop. next shot WHACKKKK way high. wtf? wrong pin i guess? next shot CRACK arrow blew up as it hit the limbs. hmmm next target or 2 after i missed too! arrow looked like it was sittin funny. still cant fix it. serving unravled and moved my nock and loop. bad news bears. after that i shot 30yd targets with my 20yd pin. i shot 2 12x's like that lol. arrows flying all sorts of crazy though...terrible flight. but still ended with a 230 with 4 zeros i think. not too shabby lol...but flight was terrible and not consistant...i got alot of 8s and 5s after my zeros...

no sense in reserving it since i got a new string coming...havent really shot since other than form practice...
