I carry 6 in the quiver but when I go on a hunt I have at least a dozen in the case. Flew in for a moose hunt once and out of a dozen I only had 2 straight arrows by the time I got to camp, and only one to hunt caribou with after I shot my moose. (I've since upgraded from Doskocil to SKB!) You just never know when you might take a fall in the mountains and bend most of the arrows in your quiver, the more you have, the better chance that at least one of them is going to survive.

Rob, that's a good point that I think some people miss.
A friend of mine recently asked me why I purchased another dozen arrows when I already have a little over a half dozen. He said something along the lines of; "You can only carry a half dozen in your quiver."
Well, I now have a little over a dozen and a half arrows. I gave him a half dozen of my FMJs because I wanted him to be shooting better (legal weight) arrows this fall. If anything happens to my arrows, I'll be able to quickly replace them with more.
Fortunately, he has the same draw length and shoots the exact same length arrow I do, so if something happens to his arrows I've got him covered as well.
We're hunters. Chit happens. Those who are prepared can continue to hunt, those who aren't get to sit at camp.
