RE: 30lbs for Deerhunting

30 pounds is enough to cleanly kill a deer inside 20 yards or so. The thing is that it is up to the hunter to have the proper set up and to know their effective range and stick to it.

It doesn't matter if you are pulling 30 pounds or 80 pounds a slob hunter is a slob hunter and they will take risky shots regardless of how much weight they are pulling.

Ditto what bigbulls said. I personally think it is a great idea if it means getting more women and children into the field bowhunting. BUT, I think the DNR here could do a better job educating of what a shot at 30 pounds should entail. They could inform the public through accompanying text that shots under 20 yards or whatever it is will not be as effective and therefore no recommend taking them, etc. And talk about proper shot placement. Such a diagram would be a wonderful addition to the reg book in general.

Maybe for modern compounds 30 pounds will be okay. I wouldn't shoot anything bigger than a cottontail with a 30 pound recurve.

BUT THEY SAY THAT WAS THE POUNDAGE A AVERAGE NATIVE AMERICANS BOW WOULD DO .
If that's true, then whoever came up with that garbage is an ignorant idiot.
