40lbs here in South Dakota. I think 30lbs is getting a little low, but thats only my opinion.

40 here in NH, 50 for Moose.

If you think about it, the minimum weight hasn't changed in years, meanwhile the speed that bows spit out arrows has gone up. So the speed todays 30lb bow can shoot are probably close to or greater than previous years 40lb bows, resulting in same or higher KE and Momentum.

Of course this ignores traditional bows, but a 30 lb compound is probably faster than a 40 lb recurve.

If they want more women and children in hunting, most stock rifles have a trigger pull of 5 pounds... if they cant pull back at least 40-45 lbs, they got no business bowhunting. Not saying they cant target shoot or enjoy the archery shooting sports at 30 lbs, but they shouldnt try to kill a big game animal with 30 lbs.

When I was 14 in Wyoming it was 45#'s. I could pull about 52 #'s then. In Nebraska it is 40# as well. My wifes 40# bow shoots pretty darn good at 40#. I have her using magnus stinger 4 blades and I am hoping to get her on a deer this year to see what that will do.
