Disappointed!

Went out to shoot tonight, and I have a lot more work to do thanI thought. Good thing isI found an outdoor range within a 10 miles of my house. The membership is only $40 dollars a year. I can't believe how bad I shot compared to howI shot last time. The motivation is there, and nowI have a decent affordable place to pratice. I really feel kind of humbled, probably the best thing that could happen. No doubt, I got some work to do!!![&:]

I know the feeling! I went out to shoot at my local range about 3 weeks ago and couldn't put a group together to save my life. A little discouraged, I decided to walk the 3d range anyways and shot great. It was amazing how much better I did when shooting at lifelike targets in a more natural environment. I'm staying away from the paper targets and concentrating on the 3d. just my 2 cents. good luck!

At least you know now. Imagine if you were one of those guys that just picks up his bow a couple days before the opener and you were shooting bad. The sad thing is that doesn't stop those guys from going out.

Good luck getting it straightened out.

RE: Disappointed!

I am no expert. Third year hunting. Fourth year shooting. But when I find I am off track, I think the worst thing that I could do is panic and get frustrated. I tell myself it might not get fixed tonight, but it will get fixed. And then I go to work, looking at the simple things first and then moving to the more complex if its still not working.

Once I do get in a rhythm of shooting to my standards, I try not to overdo practicing. The first couple of years I tried to shoot a couple of dozen arrows every night. I felt like I had to in order to succeed. Now I get out there 4-5 times a week and shoot a dozen arrows in most sessions and a couple dozen once or twice a week. I take my time and shoot at varying distances, holding on target for awhile before each release, trying to simulate hunting conditions. I think to myself on every shot, this is the one that will bring down the big boy and hold steady until I am 99 percent confident my shot will hit its mark. And then swear if its off a little.:D

I guess my motto now is quality of shots over quantity and if I can't figure out the problem in one night, I don't let it get to me. Unless of course, it's the night before season opener. :D

It's only ten yards, but I'm gonna shoot a few arrowsevery morning and every evening from now until season opener. I'm still gonna try to get to the range 2 or 3 times a week. The way I shot last night I wouldn't take a shot over thirty yards if today was the opener, but I have another month of practice!
