Disappointed!

Went out to shoot tonight, and I have a lot more work to do thanI thought. Good thing isI found an outdoor range within a 10 miles of my house. The membership is only $40 dollars a year. I can't believe how bad I shot compared to howI shot last time. The motivation is there, and nowI have a decent affordable place to pratice. I really feel kind of humbled, probably the best thing that could happen. No doubt, I got some work to do!!![&:]

I know the feeling! I went out to shoot at my local range about 3 weeks ago and couldn't put a group together to save my life. A little discouraged, I decided to walk the 3d range anyways and shot great. It was amazing how much better I did when shooting at lifelike targets in a more natural environment. I'm staying away from the paper targets and concentrating on the 3d. just my 2 cents. good luck!

At least you know now. Imagine if you were one of those guys that just picks up his bow a couple days before the opener and you were shooting bad. The sad thing is that doesn't stop those guys from going out.

Good luck getting it straightened out.

I am no expert. Third year hunting. Fourth year shooting. But when I find I am off track, I think the worst thing that I could do is panic and get frustrated. I tell myself it might not get fixed tonight, but it will get fixed. And then I go to work, looking at the simple things first and then moving to the more complex if its still not working.

Once I do get in a rhythm of shooting to my standards, I try not to overdo practicing. The first couple of years I tried to shoot a couple of dozen arrows every night. I felt like I had to in order to succeed. Now I get out there 4-5 times a week and shoot a dozen arrows in most sessions and a couple dozen once or twice a week. I take my time and shoot at varying distances, holding on target for awhile before each release, trying to simulate hunting conditions. I think to myself on every shot, this is the one that will bring down the big boy and hold steady until I am 99 percent confident my shot will hit its mark. And then swear if its off a little.:D

I guess my motto now is quality of shots over quantity and if I can't figure out the problem in one night, I don't let it get to me. Unless of course, it's the night before season opener. :D

It's only ten yards, but I'm gonna shoot a few arrowsevery morning and every evening from now until season opener. I'm still gonna try to get to the range 2 or 3 times a week. The way I shot last night I wouldn't take a shot over thirty yards if today was the opener, but I have another month of practice!

You might want to try focusingon 20 yrds its not to far to blow your flinchs and stuff way off but the little added distance will make you have to hold even more steady and ounce your holding steady at 20 anything closer will be alot easier. That is how it is for most thats how I do it alot of the time I shoot 40 yrds more then I practice 20 yrds. The same principles matter for all distances (as long as your sites are on). If you shoot a release just your finger moves nothing else. And like everyone said dont worry just have fun you got lots of time until the season starts. ( which reminds me I got to go out tomm. night my 20 30 and 40 are all 2 inches low... still dont have to new bow fine tuned)

If you feel like you may be flinching, or having some form issues, try shooting at a blank bale before and after each practice session to ingrain that feeling of a perfect release into your routine. I have practiced more this year than ever on strictly my release and all I can say is that every other aspect of my shooting has fallen into place.

I have target practiced for several years in a in-door range and it is nice to be inside when the temps of summer is 90 degree's or above with high humidity added to the factor, but there's nothing better than an outdoor range and shooting from an elevation to sharpen your skills in the real world of Hunting! ;)

I'm at Broadway and Arapahoe in Centennial. I went to C470 and Morrison road last night and shot at Bear Creek Park. Are You a member of Colorado Waterfowl? PM sent.

Edit-Thanks for the invite, I hope we get to shoot one day soon.
