RE: bating
Actually Ive put out corn and a camera and got pics about 4 hours after I left so the big monsters may not come to it that day but they usually dont come to it anyway unless they chasing a doe in the rut.

RE: bating
Baiting can be effective, it's how many hunt in Jersey, where there aredeep and heavypine woods and a bucks patterns can not be determined. Just be prepared for the large and mature bucks to turn nocturnal right around the beginning of the season, when the pressure starts(at least that's what they do here). What basically happens is they start to pattern you.
For the past10 years or so I've been focusing on hunting food plots and farms rather than some of my older, big woods spots where the only wayto get-em in is to have a bait pile. It might be different in your area, but here in South Jersey so many people hunt over sweet potato piles it makes me sick. There must be one every few hundred yards. The smart bucks in my areawill only eat off a bait pile 3:00 in the morning. Like I stated before they pattern you. |
