I feel pretty sure it is an owl. The "Screaming Chitters" call of the Great Horned Owl seems to sound as he described.

Rarely do song birds sing at night, except for the mocking bird.

Windwalker, it was the great horned owl squawks. Only those are mild. Holy cow it'll tear you up when you hear them in person! thanks!!

I've seen bobcats in southern ohio. Chances are thats what it is. But like said your safer in the woods then on the street in ohio.

Screech Owl! Sounds like a woman getting killed in the woods! A porccupine also has a blood curdlling yell

You know, I've heard some coons going at it and they make a helluva racket. Not sure if they are luvin or fightin.

I heard that sound before and it was the same night we saw a cougar in are chicken pen.
