I agree with bowhunter Jim last day last light if you dont take him sombodyelse will.
If it was the LAST day and last light than HOW could someone else kill 'em ?!? [&:]

I just love that attitude, man if I don't kill 'em than somebody else will ! [:@] That comment has got to be from a guy who is satified shooting yearling basket racks every year but complaining about no "big bucks" being arond!

I wouldn't shoot a nice sized Buck with only 1 side of his rack intact...I can always shoot a Doe if was wanting just the Venison. It cost too much to have a Deer mounted...unless the Taxidermist would only charge me 1/2 price for a 1/2 racked Buck!

For those of you who are holding out for a "mature" deer, whatever mature might be in your book, if a mature buck walks by your stand but it has half its rack broken off, are you still pulling the trigger, afterall it is still a mature deer, or are you waiting for another mature deer with a nice rack???????
I had this exact scenario unfold on a huge 4x4 buck that I had watched one summer and finally got him into close bow range in November. At less than 20 yards he walked in and stood stone still below me scanning the creek bottom. I had just bout went to full draw when I noticed he was missing halfof his rack. I couldnt believe it. He was busted off right past his browtine on his left side. I thought about drawing for what seemed like an eternity (probably 2 full minutes.) I then figured, I needed to find the buck that broke his and I let him walk, hoping to get to hunt him again the following year if he made it.

So what ya'll are saying...this QDM isnot about the health of the herd or for the good of the herd really. In fact it's all about BIG HORNS so I can pound my chest. A half rack makes a mature deer suddenly inferior. As I've said all along. Most QDM nuts are totally horn hunters. DOn't give me all this bull about health of the herd yada yada yada. It's pound my chest when I get lucky and let everyone know... I am the greatest. These same people are the ones that say you shouldn't shoot that nice little basket rack even though you only get to hunt 2 days a year. They say you're hurting the herd and should let them "MATURE". Now we find out it's really, let them go so I can possibly shoot one with both sides of his rack when it's big. I don't care what age he is.... just make his horns whole and bigger than your's. Go to it macho boys. Now I know why the Outdoor channel and MOR have all these "Male Enhancement" commercials.

Great post David! What you caught them at is the attitude of at least 90% of the so called QDM ers I run across. And they are the loudest supporters of making it mandatory for ALL deer hunters to hunt as they do so that it increases their chances for a "trophy". Trouble is if it works, then the bar needs to continually be raised for a "trophy to be" worthy.
