I have my gerber multi-tool as well as an old timer I have had for years. I also carry a folding saw that I got on clearance for like $8 that I can cut trees with and it makes quick work of the pelvic area as well as the ribcage if I am going to cut that high.

I take a Buck 110 Folding hunter, and then also a multi-tool with me. Haven't found that I need any other blades.

RE: because knife was a must have! ...
I have a Case knife that my dad bought me many years ago. The sheath is hard plastic and not as nice as the fancy leather ones, but I learned quickly to appreciate its design. After gutting a deer and putting the bloody, fat, and fur covered knife back in you just run hot water through the sheath and there are two drain holes in the bottom. Very easy clean up.
I can't see a reason to buy a new one any time soon. |
RE: because knife was a must have! ...
I use a Browning three blade folder. One drop point, one gut hook w/razor and one saw blade. With the exception of larger branches over 2in, (rare that I remove them) this knife will handle anything I need it to do.

RE: because knife was a must have! ...
I've got a whole box full of Buck knives that don't go anywhere anymore. For the past 10 years or so my knife is a folding Gerber Gator with a 3 inch blade and a rubberized handle. That's all I use in the woods. When I get to boning out the deer I may grab one of the larger Bucks... but it's really not necessary. This Gerber will rip open a chest cavity and do anything I want.
