Question About Scent Blocker??

I was considering purchasing the scent blocker suit. How many of you have used these and what do you think about them. They are a little high priced, but I used the 3-D realtree leaf suit and this would be perfect to go under it. What are your opinions on the Scent Blocker stuff?

Go for it. Use it as part of a your system. Anything that builds your confidence is good.

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

i wouldnt bowhunt without them. i've killeddeer with the wind blowing straight to them. yes they are a little pricey but well worth it.

Forget the wind, just hunt! lmao!

Man, your a day too late. I just sold my Scent Blocker Jacket. It was brand new (MSRP: $160). I sold it for $100 bucks!

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

Hunsucker,

#$#%, I wanted to own the Jacket that formerly housed those famous guns. :D

BTW, ya think your sweaty pits already "used up" all that activated charcoal?
Oh yeah, just throw it in the dryer, that's the ticket.

In answer to the query, I've got silver ion base layer and then whatever layers I need for use under my ASAT 3D suit.

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

Haha actually, it was a brand new jacket! I hadnt pitted it up yet! ;)

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

You can buy an army surplus camo charcoal suit for about 30 bucks or a charcoal liner for about 10. What makes the scent blocker suit that much better?

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

First thing tomorrow morning, I'm calling up Scent Blocker and ordering a pair of Dream Season boots, and two pairs of Dream Season Base Layers, one in mid weight and one in expedition weight... to wear under my Gray Wolf Woolens Predator! :)

Never tried them but know people who have and sold them the same year. I guess they are worthless?? But I dont know from experience.

Whatpuzzles me is why people who have no intentions of using scent-blocker products care that other people DO use them.

I don't understand that mentality.

Exactly. I've never owned or worn any Scent-Lok or Blocker and don't care if someone else does. It gets old listening to some people tell others how to spend their money.

mtfreezer 07-11-2007 08:17 AM

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

I don't care who wears them, but I do care when someone ask if it is worth the money to buy them as they are expensive. I think they may work but for only a season if taken care of well. I would suggest using scent killer or a similiar product or make your own.

Save your money for something else.

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

GMMAT,

Are Scentblocker jokes not allowed anymore.

I think people come to a forum to get people's opinion, not mushy if it "feels good do it."

Frankly, I'm not a big fan of responses to people's questions that are along the lines of:
"To each his own." "Everybody has their own preferences." "If it works for you" etc.

I understand it with bow preference somewhat and a lot of stuff is subjective. But if anyone wants to
say a product sucks, then that is what this forum is for. [8D]

Fine LeBeau...

So he asks

I was considering purchasing the scent blocker suit. How many of you have used these and what do you think about them.
The thing that bothers me is the people putting those who HAVE purchased the product down....when they have NO experience with it. I hope that makes better sense.

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

Personally I own a scentblocker suit and wear it every time I'm on stand. Does it work? well I can't say for sure since I can't smell as well as a deer. What I can say is that it gives me extra confidence while I'm hunting and I do believe it offers a slight advantage over conventional clothing. However, I still select stand location as if I'm not wearing one. I don't use it as a reason to not hunt the wind but rather an added piece of protection should the deer come in down wind unexpectidly.

LebeauHunter 07-11-2007 08:59 AM

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

I have a Scentblocker suit which will go into retirement this year , so I'm allowed to say my piece.

Fine. Though I've never owned a hoyt bow.....they suck. They're overpriced...and you're only paying for the name. You're a chump if you're stupid enough to fall for the marketing ploys.....because there's no way to prove the hoyt will kill deer any better than my $200 PSE Nova. Don't buy the snake oil.

Doesn't that sound funny?

That's what we see a lot of, though......unfortunately.

huntingson 07-11-2007 09:08 AM

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

I personally have never tried it as I appreciate the challenge of having to hunt with the wind in mind, but to each his own. I honestly think it is like trying to blindfold the deer to hunt them, but everybody has their own preferences. Also, I am not at all convinced that it actually works, but if it works for you I think you should go for it.

That ones for you Lebeau:D

I owned scent lok and had no better results then using baking soda.Doing exactly what the company said to do.I would not buy it again.

LebeauHunter 07-11-2007 09:19 AM

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

GMMAT,

I particularly singled out bows as one area where this does get old.

And it is helpful when someone says why a product sucks (especially if from experience).
That's why I usually throw in a little nugget of wisdom (hah) with my product disapproval and try
to keep my positive-negative ratio at 3-1.

Dont waste your money.

http://www.fastestbows.com/articles/corrigan/scent_suits.htm

Read that. And again...dont waste your money on that scent lok/blocker junk.
When it comes down to it, your trying to fool a deers nose. I dont think a piece of clothing will do that.

GMMAT 07-11-2007 09:24 AM

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

Charlie:

I have no reason not to believe you. I own it, too.....and I have NO IDEA as to whether or not I see more deer with it or without it (I don't wear it all the time). These threads kill me, though.....:D.

I probably hunt with it 50% of the time. I couldn't tell you with any certainty whether or not I see more or less deer with it on or off. I just know it's pretty well-made camouflage.....and I paid likely LESS for it than most pay for their name brand open pattern camo (which I also own garments of).

So, for me.....it's quality camouflage.....and if it has ANY scent-blocking capabilities.....what a bonus. Not why I bought it, though.;)

GMMAT 07-11-2007 09:30 AM

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

And there's NO WAY you can say it doesn't "WORK". It worked for me 5 times, last year, alone. I have no reason to think it won't "work" at least that many times this year (maybe more??).

It's camouflage. How does it not "work"? I still play the wind (as much as possible). I still practice a good scent-control regimen.

Do I think someone could take a dump in them and shower with a skunk carcass and not have scent issues? Let's ALL be "real", here, guys. I don't think anyone who uses this stuff believesall the advertising. I know I don't.

GMMAT, im glad you used some smilies finaly;)No reason to get worked up on a forum, when they are designed for opinions:D

kdsberman 07-11-2007 09:48 AM

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

actually now that i think of it, there is one part of Scent Lok/Blocker that does work. The actual camoflauge on it.

GMMAT 07-11-2007 09:52 AM

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

Thanks, Cay. I'm very glad you're glad I'm finally using smilies and not getting worked up. If I ever stop using them.....I'm surely goingto spontaneously combust.

oh.....

:)

LittleChief 07-11-2007 10:03 AM

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

It's okay, folks. It'll all be better as soon as bow season gets here.:D Jeff, if you do spontaneously combust, could you try to do it in front of one of your cams? I'd love to actually see it happen. Oh wait, then it wouldn't be spontaneous, would it?

wis_bow_huntr 07-11-2007 10:19 AM

RE: Question About Scent Blocker??

now now GMMAT no need to get worked up about it, its only scent lok. but i am thinking you were just in the right place at the right time 4 times last year and got lucky on the 5th time....:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:DBURNED!!!! Jk lol.

I kept a journal for years, sightings,times,locations,wind direction,barometric pressure,etc.etc.

The loss of some really good hunting ground is the biggest factoras far a deer sightings went.

You talk about shooting five in a season, I doulbed up two different times in this spot with out getting out of my stand. Location and deer density is what it's about.

Save you're money on the elimination products and buy something that offers better camo patterns, fabric, and comfort.

The scentblocker stuff is nice........no doubt it is a nice quality garment. I am getting some scenct blocker items for my montana trip this year during November......I like the boots but I would suggest that you guys try these on before you order online....if possible because the liner makes the boots one sixe smaller......so if you wear a 11 you will need a 12.....just my experience.....I tried them on at a local shop the other day..........once they were on they were comfy.

I kept one last year, too......but I didn't write down if I had scent-Lok on or not.

Location and deer density is what it's about.
Bingo. Can't argue with that.

indians have been hunting for thousands of years without them and they seemed to be pretty successful, don't waste your money, just hunt down wind

GMMAT 07-11-2007 01:30 PM

If you think the indians didn't practice scent control.....you're being naive.
