3 bows in mind , which to choose ?
I am currently looking into buying my first bow in package form , 3 in mind but which ? . $500 -$600 my maximum spend .
Fred Bear Instinct Martin Bengal or Cheetah Magnum Bowtech Tomkat I can only import these bows , so therefore cannot try them out first . |
RE: 3 bows in mind , which to choose ?
I personally belive that you should always shoot a bow before buying it. but if you cant at all then go with a bowtech

RE: 3 bows in mind , which to choose ?
Tomkat is more expensive then the Bear or Martins.
So if I had to choose from those w/o price, I'd say Tomkat with binary cam and a little faster. I'm not sure if you can get a Tomkat w/o a package though. But for the money, both the Bear and those Martin's are supposed to be great values. |
RE: 3 bows in mind , which to choose ?
never have shot any of the bows u listed, but heard the new bear bow was great bow for the money, although any of the 3 would probably work just fine.I would try to shoot some of my buddies bows first and go from there.

RE: 3 bows in mind , which to choose ?
I would really like to stretch to the Tribute , but this is my first bow and all bows i am looking at will come in bow package with all the right bits .
i have just found a dealer in the UK that sells the Tomkat in package form for 400pounds sterling which aint bad ,look like it comes with crappy sight , quiver , compared to the bits i have seen fitted in America . will see what the import price comes too first , but am gonna try it out at the shop anyway . thanks |

Tomkat, great bow for the money.

Bear Instinct great bow, good price.

I've shot Martin bows since 1972, never had a problem, and they shot great. I've abused my bows thru the years and they took it all. Rich

they are all good bows so you cant go wrong there. Personally I would consider buying a slightly used tribute or allegiance or a switchback or something like that. You should be able to find a like new one for that price range.

The Tomkat is available without the package, but the package is really a heck of a deal.;)

that really is a great deal. I almost thought of getting one myself once. I didnt like the brace height on it though.

I've said for a couple years now that the Tomkat is Bowtech's biggest sleeper in its stable... quite possibly its best-kept-secret! I mean, a darn-near nine-inch brace height that's sizzling arrows at up to 315 fps?!? Amazing!

Beware of bow "packages", I just don't see the need of spending top dollar to get cheap accessories with a cheap bow just to call it a "package" deal. I would MUCH rateher spend the money of the bow I want and than make sure the accessories on that rig are quality! What gear do these bows come with anyway? Also, consider a slightly used season old bow in great shape (like many of them area), I'd much rather buy a slightly used top-of-the-line Hoyt, BowTech or Mathews than the cheapermodels you've mentioned. Head to a Shop and shoot several, then decide. Good luck and good shootin'

Cornfed, The TomKat comes with a solid rest which a lot of hunters prefer the Whisker Biscuit (I am sure that will soon be the new Hostage rest) both solid performers. The quiver is a Bowtech/Diamond quiver again a nice solid quiver. The sight I am not sure of. I am sure most Hardcore archers would want a more top of the line sight, but then again if you have unlimited funds and are looking for something top of the line Bowtech you are not going to be looking at the TomKat. It is a solid bow and shoots really nice and also performs admirably.:D

Pick the one your comfortable with. Only you can make that call. Remember its not a popularity contest with your pick... Do whats best for you and you only...

I would say shoot all three and see which you like the best.
With that said. I have a TomKat and agree with GREG. Its quite, smooth, and fast. It is BowTech's "cheapest" bow and its still a darn good shooter. At 27.5'' and 67lbs, mine chronoed at just under 300FPS. That pretty good with a short draw andwith the "cheapest" bow a company produces. The bow comes fully rigged and ready to shoot. I changed the sight and rest on mine, but thats just b/c I wanted a different type of sight and rest. The ones that came on the bow are fine. Too bad you aren't lefty I would sale you mine. I just bought it a few months ago. If this bow is as good as it is and its the "cheapest" BowTech makes, I can't wait to get my hands on a higher end BowTech. |

RE: 3 bows in mind , which to choose ?
The only trouble is that the Archery shop i visited 40 miles away only deals mainly with Bowtech and Hoyt and rip-off Britain ain't as cheap as America when it comes to buying Bows , for instance Bowtech Tribute 595pounds =$1190 , in America $699or the Hoyt Trykon 610pounds = $1220 , in America $719 . And as i don't know what i'm looking for in a bow really used is not really an option , thats why i'm looking for a good package deal . i have about $700 limit max . Suggestions if you can think of a better bow package than the Tomkat are welcome , as i plan to buy in the next 6 weeks .
thanks |
RE: 3 bows in mind , which to choose ?
Hi Greg , is the Tomkat a good grouper on the range once set up ?
|
RE: 3 bows in mind , which to choose ?
I am not Greg, but since I do have a TomKat I thought I would answer your question.
This is my first Robin Hood. It shot it with my TomKat after having it only a few weeks. I do not group shoot anymore b/c of the amount of arrows and nocks that I have busted. In all honesty (not saying this b/c I have a TomKat), I think that the TomKat is one of the most over looked bows on the market. It is accurate, quite, and no hand schock. With a Sims S-coil on it, it feels like you are shooting one of the high-end BowTechs that are 2x the price. I have a short draw and am still getting almost 300fps out of this bow. ![]() |
RE: 3 bows in mind , which to choose ?
Thanks StrutNtom and al who reccommended the Tomkat . You just made Bowtechs stock of Tomkats a little smaller . I'm getting one , thanks everybody for helping out . I will be back to ask about technical stuff later . :D... CHEERS

RE: 3 bows in mind , which to choose ?
Bailsuk, you'll be plenty pleased with the Tomkat's ability to group arrows: Let's put it this way, it can group better than I can ;)

RE: 3 bows in mind , which to choose ?
Great choice Bailsuk! Let's see some pics when you get her. Oh by the way welcome to the forums!:)

RE: 3 bows in mind , which to choose ?
