Default 1st Velvet Buck

Spotted this guy and a year and a half old meandering through a bean field last night about 45 minutes before dark. I snuck up to about 100 yards from them, and they laid down right in the middle of the field in front of me. I would've tried to get a little closer, but I was getting chewed up by mosquitos and didn't want to spook him too bad (he was straight downwind of me, and I wasn't wearing my Scent-Lok. )

With another month+ to grow, he may turn out to be a decent buck. Well, decent enough for me anyways.

Hey I thought you were landless this year

I still have yet to see a deer in Ill, I don't think they exist. I think you guys are shooting them in Wis and IA and bringing them back[8D]

I have "a" spot to hunt, but I'm not allowed to bring anyone with me which doesn't exactly do much for trying to film or help my buddies out. I "should" have some more ground somewhere in IL pretty soon, so I'm not too worried.

This guy is a suburban Lake Countybuck. I was probably within 1/4 mile of village limits and only a few hundred yards from some houses. I know there's bigger bucks around, but I would definitely shoot him if he walked by me this fall.

That feed is outrageous.. wonder what these mountain deer out here would look like if they had a protein diet like that to enhance things a bit.. nice pix Justin. Best of luck with getting the IL property too..

Looking good. Man those beans are high. The bean fields around here are still at ankle level.

Good luck.
