Our new bowhunting lodge!!!!!!!!!!

I have wanted a walltent forever and I found this main tent and stovein the classifies for $300!!! I built a vestible onto it and my total cost for it and the front porch and vestiblewas $73. The camo mesh was an additional $34.00.I had to buy stove pipe for it and the cost of it was $37.00. I ran double wall thru the tent just to be safe.I have a total cost of $444 in it. We can now enjoy our out of state big game hunts in comfort with a nice base camp. We also plan on doing an IA whitetail hunt over a 3 day weekend by taking a boat up the river and hunting public land that is basicallyinaccessible except by boat. The vestible will be the cooktent and extra storage area. Here are the dimensions of the tent:
Main tent has 6 poles and it is 18' from one cross pole to the other directly across from it. The sidewalls are 6' tall and the center pole is 10'. I can stand up against the edge inside with my shoulder touching the wall and my head not touching the ceiling. It has a front and back door to it and it also has mesh and solid zippered doors that close.

The vestible is 7' wide by 9' long with see thru mesh to keep out insects.

The porch awningis 7' wide by 9' long as well.

I will build a portable shower enclosure yet too so that solar showers can be taken in privacy.
We love this new home away from home. Here we are in front of our new lodge.

Nice set-up Don, about how long does it take to get set-up? We used 30' tents in the Army, took us about 20min to get set-up with 6 people.

RE: Our new bowhunting lodge!!!!!!!!!!

It took us (Sarah, myself, and my boy) 20 minutes to setup the main tent. The additions will probably take another 10-15 I am thinking.

Me too!! I think I could double my $$. Not for sale though. I have looked at walltentsfor sometime and it is pretty easy to get a $1000 wrapped up in one. Yea, it is heavy; entire setupprobably weighs about 100 lbs.

That'd bad! Definitely will have a lot of fun with that one. Man that'd be fun to pack that in a boat and head up river to set up camp & hunt. Have fun with that!

RE: Our new bowhunting lodge!!!!!!!!!!

That's what we are thinking. Guys would pay several thousand dollars to hunt this way out of state, but hunters as a rule, never live an adventure right in their own state. There is some awesome ground that holds big bucks on public land that is accessible only by boat or a loooooooong hike. Mostly this river bottom ground is overlooked. It will make for some great filming too!!!!!!!

RE: Our new bowhunting lodge!!!!!!!!!!

I would say the whole setup with poles and all is 100 lbs. The stove weighsan additional50 lbs.

That's tough Hardcore.. You'll have lot of fun. Nothing like "roughing it" in a tent to really connect with Nature!

Where we elk hunt is at the end of a jeep road. You can drive to the camp spot and then do daily hikes to get up into the good elk country. With a boat hunt, I will be able to get close to the camp site with the boat.

Very nice hardcore. The Potlatch paper company leases tracts of land in Northern Minnesota for pennies compared to what you'd pay an outfitter or some farms. You have to do your homework and find the right spot, but if I remember right when I looked into this last year, I think you could lease 40 acres for around $500 per year. And you get this forthe entire year so if you can find a spot good for bear, deer and turkey hunting, that's a sweet deal. I checked their web site last week and they have no land available at this time. Not sure what the deal is but I'm sure more will come open in the future. A reasonable option for an out of state hunt to set up your lodge. Good luck and again, sweet set-up.

RE: Our new bowhunting lodge!!!!!!!!!!

It is. The main sleeping area could easily fit 10 cots. Not that you would want to fit that many but when hunting with just another couple, it will be plenty of room. I like the idea of a a seperate cooking area. I am going to buy a roll of outdoor carpeting and keep it rolled up during the day, but roll it out at night so that you can walk around with your boots off on a clean floor. 1st thing in the AM then roll it back up and leave against the wall all day so that it stays clean. TeeJay gave me that idea, otherwise in a day the carpet would be filthy from being walked on with boots. A lantern hanging from the ceiling will provide great light and I also have two big (I call them church or garage sale tables) that I will set up inside to put bows, hunting equipment on, and to cook off of in the cook tent. This tent is made of heavy duck cloth and so is the vestible.

I must say in the first picture it looks a little used and abused [:'(], but the tent doesn't look too bad!
