Free for me. All the corn falling from the elevator into the corn crib we shovel into a trailer. The trailer gets so full of corn I get unlimited shelled corn.

That's really not too bad of a price.

If you're not getting it from an elevator already, try them out.

Your location will have an effect on pricing.
That's why these guys are saying to go to an elevator, b/c you may be dealing directly with the farmer (no middleman, no packaging, shipping, etc.).

Where I'm out (S/Central Louisiana), a lot of people use rice bran.
It's cheap down here, by-product of milling. The deer love it and it
doesn't seem to attract as many critters as corn. Sometimes we pour
it over corn.

While I was at the local Fleet Farm this week buying supplies I noticed bags of corn where nearly $7 for 50lb. They were just under $4 for that amount last year. The ethanol industry/demand has had a huge effect on corn prices almost everywhere. I don't forsee an end in sight until the farmers can get supply up to the level needed again. Until then, the price of everything involving corn - cereal, beef, pop, etc. will continue to rise.

RE: Corn?

chucker34,

It's affecting everything. The ethanol thing (along with speculation) is taking something that was formerly only for food and using it for a different purpose. It upsets the whole supply. Corn substitutes are on the rise for obvious reasons and now crops like soybeans are on the rise because guess what, a lot less acres were planted in soy this year. Basically the demand on all farm land has increased due to the intrusion of this new use.

RE: Corn?

Shelled corn is running anywhere between 5.00-6.25 per 50lbs in most areas here. But I have my own sheller and an unlimited supply of corn so i pay nothing but a little time shoving it through the sheller :D

Price here went from 5.95 to 7.95 for a 50 lb. bag since last year....:(

Ditto.

I paid 5.65 for a 40lb bag yesterday...

RE: Corn?

I paid 6.50 for a 50lb bag two weeks ago. My suggestionis to find a farmer to sale you corn in 55 gallon drums, as it is usually worth the savings. Last year i paid 25 dollars per drum, and they hold around 400-450lbs. I guess it depends if you are in a agricultural area (I am from north Florida) and can find the right farmer

It would cost me some jail time and years of loosing hunting privelages.
Can't bait big game here in Wyoming. Not a salt lick either. I don't think they would like food crops either. You lucky bastards!
