The biggest tree that my stand will fit on. usually some kind of an oak. once in a while a beech. i dont like to use my climber on a beech though cause the bark isnt the easiest for the stand to bite into.

I generally prefer white Oaks. But if there is a big enough sassafrass around I will climb it. Sassafrass has nice bark to dig into and it holds very well. Least favoriteis shag bark Hickory. They are way to noisey...

While were on the subject of tree's ... there's two old tree's standing side by side in the woods with a small sappling growing in between them.
One old tree looks down at the sappling and say's to the other old tree " Is that a son of a beech or a son of a birch ?" .
The other old tree replyed " I don't know " just then a bird lands on the sappling and starts picking at it.
One of the old trees asked the bird " What kind of tree is that ?" the bird reply's " It's neither a son of a beech or a son of a birch but its the best piece of Ash my picker has ever been in.

Tree type is not as important as cover. Here is acherry tree. I love this tree because of how well I am hidden. I really like 3 trucks if I can find one.

White Oak is #1 for me for several reason, I'll list just a few.
Pine would be # 2
- Deer love acorns
- Easy to get up high in
- Normally Oaks are abundant where I hunt
- Typically a solid treefor any standstand
- Find one Oak and you probably will find lots in a hardwoods area
- An Oak grove with a good harverstis a guarantee deer will be feeding there frequently

I put my stand in a walnut tree once, that was a big mistake. I hada lump on my head for a week[:@]
When those walnuts hit your stand, man to they make noise
