RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
3X now, All I can say is dont leave it out sorry
|
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
ouch I have been lucky never had something stolen
|
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
I always lock mine to the tree and remove the bottom section of the ladder when I will not be hunting for a while. As for what to do when you find him, find his vehicle after he goes into the woods, flatten all 4 tires, bust out every light, (if diesel, pour gas into his tank), and last but not least, take a shoot on his hood! Or you could call the local game warden, which all my stand have my name and # etched into them in a hidden spot. |
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
This is why I use a climber and always take it. I hear too many stories about people's lock-ons. I'dsticka cheap one out there with nails up through the seat that are hidden by the cushion. That should fix the SOB.
I had a cheap climber that I used to hide in my spot a few years ago and someone stole it. The darn thing weighed about 55 lbs due to the 3/4" plywood base. I don't understand why people do this stuff. I've seen guy's climbers out all the time and wouldn't think about stealing one. |
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
I forgot to mention
All were locked this new one i put chain on and i put an Ameristep?? lock on it they cut both, my ladder was hidden in a brush pile locked to a tree that lock is cut too I hate these people who call themselfs "sportsmen" Ryan[:@] |
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
I would buy another one...put it in an obvious, wide openspot...grab 2 cases of 30pk Coors Light....a .30-06 and plenty of camo. Sit and wait.
|
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
Go buy another cheap or used stand, put it in the same tree, set up a trail camera, (day time only or IR) and catch a picture of them. A friend of mine did this, saw the guy at the check in station a week later, called game warden, went to his house and he had over 100 stands, many of which were for sale! Got busted!

RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
I'd recommend investing in a good kryptonite motorcycle lock and chain in the future. Those things are impossible to cut or brake.
Well worth the $120. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/item.aspx?style=7497&department=640&divisi on=6 Strutnbuck, that's a great idea unless the guy finds the trail cam too. [&:] |
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
$120 for a chain!!!! I like my solution better. At least it is entertaining.
|
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
If it will protect your $100 stand and $100 ladder it's worth it.
If it will take the guy a lot of effort to get the equipment he probably will give up. I'd bet the clown will be back in the area though looking for more stuff. So, sitting out there or a good hidden cam would be a good idea. |
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
I hate it when people steal your stuff. My cousin and his buddy had two or three stands stolen from them. The worst part is they know who did it but can not prove it.
|
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
I dont own a trail camera and i dont really plan on giving him a trail camera in addition to all my stuff.... that lock is pretty expencive i'll look into it the chain i used was a towchain pretty tuff stuff, last stands i had stolen were in a different area so i thought this new place would have a lesser chance of them getting stolen, at the last place my uncle, my neighbor, and my friend all had theirs stolen, we found out who did it took doe esterus and poured it down the vents at the base of their windshield and kicked his windows in a little payback but it still dosent get your stand back, this is rediculous really why do i deserve to get my stand stolen[:@]

RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
I have seen guys put up stands using logging chain. No cutters would go through that. So what happened next? The thief shot it off.
It just proves that if a thief wants it bad enough, he/she will get it. So why put it out all season? Pointless in my opinion. Especially 3 times. |
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
Like I said, you need to suck it up, etch your info in a hidden area and set him up! Or just etch your info on your stands in the future, do what you can to protect it and enjoy your time in the woods. You will be able to do anything if you do not have something on your stand that makes it yours!

RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
I would find the person, tie them naked to a tree and burn them with lit cigarette butts.
|
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
hahahaha, you guys have some hilarious ideas!
|
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
Set up a trip circuit with some C4. Heck even use an M80 and it would be funny to see the idiot's reaction if you set the timing with the Trail Cam.
|
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
At first I was going to say "quit putting them in the same area" but you just cleared that up so I'll ask, could you be getting set up by someone you tell what area you hunt who isn't as trustworthy as you think?Or is it only you and a select few that know and youcan trust?Just something to think about and I hope it isn't someone you know.

RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
I had a stand stolen a few years back. It really upset me as I take ALL precautions and hunt on private land.
I take my treesteps out as high as I can reach (and I am 6'1) and lock my stand to the tree. I went to check on things and I looked up and there was no stand...the tree wasn't even there. Then, I noticed the 5-6 foot lengths of tree scattered around with some treesteps sticking out of them. I figured out who it was and got my stand back. Just goes to show you that it doesn't matter how good your lock and chain are, unless you are attaching it to a metal pole!! If I were you, I'd get 2 trail cameras. Mount one in view of your next stand and mount one along the trail that you figure the guy is using for access. |

RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
Never had one stolen off a flagpole.
Gospel. |
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
I had a Lone Wolf sit and climb ($350) stolen a few years ago onprivate land and it was locked with a cable lock![:@]Now the only way I'll leave my stand is if I know I'll be there before first light the following day.;)

RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
The state I live in you can't leave a stand up on public land. If found wardens will take them. In your state can you leave them up on public lands. I think you should have to take them down because it is everyones land just not yours.

RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
First buy cheap stands, engrave your name in the stand, camo them up and put them in non-obvious trees, use a 10mm or 12mm cable lock which is much harder to cut, use tree steps but pull the bottom 3 or 4. If that doesn't work, then just carry your stands in and out with you.
|
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
Buy a cheapo stand like the ones they sell at Dicks for 29.99 every year. Put it in an obvious place with a few cheap screw in tree steps. Attach a few razor blades to the steps with some JB weld. When the scumbag tries to climb up your tree he's going to learn a painful lesson......
|
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
I had my treestand jacked twice during deer season.. There is nothing worse then walking to your stand in the dark to spend 30 min. trying to find it when its not there!! I feel your pain!!!
|
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
We've been over this a bunch of times and we all know how everyone feels about having your stands stolen, but what always gets me is that with the amount of people that float through here and post on here you KNOW there's at least one person who has stolen someone else's treestand before.
Come out, come out, wherever you are! |
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
That would show some stones. I really can't figure out why someone would steal what is not theirs.
I think it would be great justification if the stand broke while they were in it and either dropped them on their heads or left them hanging in a tree for a few days. :D |
RE: TREESTAND THEFT!!!!!!
I vote for the cheap stand decoy set-up with the camera. BUT, add in another element. Two words for ya' ... paintball landmines.Scatter them all around the tree. This would be especially sweet if you had the camera set to video.
