I sometimes think a lot of people forget this...
I kill to say I have hunted not hunted to say I have killed
-Aldo Leopold |
RE: I sometimes think a lot of people forget this...
The kill is the satisfying, indeed essential, conclusion to a successful hunt. But, I take no pleasure in the act itself. One does not hunt in order to kill, but kills in order to have hunted. Then why do I hunt? I hunt for the same reason my well-fed cat hunts...because I must, because it is in the blood, because I am the descendent of a thousand generations of hunters. I hunt because I am a hunter. - Finn Aagard |

"a hunt based only on trophies taken falls far short on what the ultimate goal should be...time to commune with your inner soul as you share the outdoors with the birds, animals, and fish that live there." -Fred Bear

ORIGINAL: Paul L Mohr I hunt because I can, not so I have something to talk about. Thats a quote by me. Paul I do not fully understand why I am like I am with hunting. It is everything about it, not just one or even a few things. I was not taught to be like this when I was a child. For the most part I amself taught over quite a few years, but afew withDad and uncles. But not many. None of them hunt now or have for 20+ years. I huntedvirtually everything in season when growing up, by myself or withone buddy. Never have gotten over it. Sometimes it feels like it isa burden to like it so much and to balance a family, responsibility, and my life in general. I knowwe joke around and simplify thingsaboutkilling and everything that goes along with it.But there is just something about it that happens everyyear. Maybe I can explain itwhen it getscloser to the Fall of the year. I will not be able to sit still. |

EVERYONE should watch primal dreams by the wensel brothers. It has done the best Ive seen at stirring the inner hunter within all of us without focusing on killing something.

Nothing stirs the soul and gets the adrenaline going like the rustle of leaves on a Fall morning.

ORIGINAL: markj ORIGINAL: Paul L Mohr I hunt because I can, not so I have something to talk about. Thats a quote by me. Paul If you read my posts I very rarely talk about hunting or comment on question asked about it. Unless it's a question I feel confident in answering or it is technical in some nature. I try to stay away from the ethics questions all together, although I have been sucked into a few. I love archery, and this is one of the best sites on the net for talking archery, period. That is why I'm here. My points was that I don't hunt so I have something to talk about. I don't do it to feel as if I can fit or to have something to bs about at work the next day or after the season. Do I talk about it, sure if someone wants to. In case you haven't noticed I don't have any trouble giving my opinion;). And I really like to talk:D. But that isn't why I do it. I do it because I like it and I can. There is nothing more to it. I rarely try to justify it with people. It is just an argument I won't get into. I was really just trying to be a smart ass is all. I like to stir the pot a little every now and then as well. Paul |
