Guess what I did today?????(Revised)
Actually, started last night but finished today. Sorry pictures are kinda blurry. A really good friend of mine helped, too big to do yourself.
 To give you an idea of size.....  What do you think about the wrinkles on the forehead, my wife hates them....  I did fine tune the wrinkles on the muzzle some. Thanks for looking. |

I'm not a huge fan of the wrinkles, myself. Makes it look more like a bulldog than a bear. |

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the compliments. The wrinkles will tone down as it dries and the hide tightens, but I may take them out. If it were mine, I would leave them but.... What is wierd is that if you look at the first pic, I like them better but when you look at the pic of just the head, I don't like them as much. Thanks again.

Looks great, but I have a question. I don't know if its your bear or not, so I don't mean to offend anyone. Why do people have black bears mounted with their mouths open like they're ferocious? They are a doscile animal and its extremely rare to see them like that. Just curious.

Dan - I agree with you but they pay the bills. I actually turn all of the "attacking" . I was at our local bow shop and had a group of hunters going to Canada bear hunting, so I met them there to discuss some things. They have an attacking bear there and I hate it, and mentioned that I would do any bear mounts except one like that. One guy chimes up that he wants his like that and I told him " I don't mount squirrels playing golf or bears attacking". He said "well I am paying", I told him when he can have a bear attacking him like that and tellme what color his tongue is, I'll mount it.This pose I figure I can justify by it may be fighting with another bear over bait.

Congrats, that's a decent lookin' mount. Personally, I'm NOT a fan of open mouthed Bear mounts but if that's what a guy wants than more power to 'em.

As a bear outfitter I always ask the first time hunters how they are going to have it mounted when they get one. 50% of the time they say they want the half wall mount in the attack position. I always tell them that by the end of the week and they see how the bears reallyare they will change their mind.......and they always do.;) I had to edit an obvious spelling error before PT the spelling police showed up.[:-] |

I think it is a great job. But I do have a comment about the picture. Did anybody else notice that the deer horns are placed perfectly behind his head(nctaxi) reminds me of Bullwinkle...........lol

That's a big bruin. I don't like the wrinkles, not because they are poorly done or anything, just not a wrinkle guy. I also never understood the black bear mounts that are in the attack mode. I like realistic looking mounts, and never have I seen a black bear being that ferocious. Great job on the mount though, attacking or not!

ks - yes it is and if you haven't done one, PM me and I'll give you some pointers.
I talked to the client and he asked me to tone down the wrinkles some, even though I showed him reference pics of how a bear's facial detail is when growling. Other than that he loved it. GMMAT - for some reason that pic looks strange. It doesn't show how broad that head really is. I think when I resized it, it condensed it. But-b I'd-b have-b to-b agree-b with-b you-b. |

After much deliberation, I removed the wrinkles.... Client liked them but decided to remove them.

You mean about the group doing the permit hunting?
I can put you in touch with the guy that's spearheading it. He's the owner of a local bow shop. I think I'm gonna pass, after thinking about it. I don't have the time...or the inclination. If I could take more deer out HERE.....I'd be interested. |
